Was it really necessary to shut central London down for 2 days cycling?

This was a planned cycling event, not vital roadworks to keep London running.
I support the promotion of cycling (I cycle 10 miles 3 times a week), but I also believe that things could have been done differently.
Let me also add that I have taken part in previous Sky ride events in Central London, and none caused the disruption, traffic and complaints that this one did.
    2 days was an overkill.

In my opinion, it could have been done in one single day.
No need to close Blackwall tunnel.
Some roads and bridges should have re-opened as soon as the race left London.

To share the road closure "pain", the race should have ended in a different part of central London, somewhere in the northern or western part of the city (Baker Street, Euston, Kings Cross, Edgware Road, Notting Hill Gate, Kensington, etc).

It wasn't just cars that were affected. A lot of bus routes were diverted and others did not run at all today, disrupting the life of a lot of people.

Some might call it a whinge, I call it valid points and valuable feedback for a future event.

whose going to pay for such a military precise event management? all across London?

How would finishing the event at King's Cross rather than the Mall have been LESS disruptive? :rotfl:
    It's only numbers.

dont understand the fuss. You had plenty of warning not to drive to central London. Can't you go without driving for a weekend?

First of all this did disrupt London and inconvenience for no very good reason or benefit.
Second the publicity was not great.
Thirdly if you came from outside London(I did) then details of delay on sites such as AA or Tom Tom was non existent. Finding detail on a website beforehand was also not that easy.
Fourthly taking public transport is not as practical if you are carrying quite a lot.
Fifthly if this is going to happen again then regardless of what people think of its worth it should be planned a lot better.

Perhaps those who want to inconvenience others by closing London?

This was just about cyclists , encouraging cyclists and getting loads of TV coverage. Someone somewhere is making a shedload of money from the event. And, I am sure most cyclists are probably perfectly reasonable people until they don their lycra gear and turn into a**holes.
  • There didn't seem to be many spectators so its unclear who the event was intended to benefit

I know plenty of people who cycled in London over the weekend both regular and new cyclists. They all really enjoyed themselves.

I drove many miles around London on the Saturday and experienced no problems.

I did not venture out on the Sunday but friends did and their journey time was a bit longer but they had planned their journey beforehand
