    morning all.

Am I right in saying that there is on roaming cost added now if using a Uk phone in the EU or is it just for the phone calls and you still have to pay for DATA.

reason for asking is that daughters contract is coming to an end and she is planning to do a ski season working in France or Italy so looking for the best sim only deal for an iPhone.

    Any help would be great

    Cheers

Myself and wife, are just ending a 12 months sim only contracts with 3 mobile. We are both on an Essential plan with unlimited calls, txts and 4Gb data. While we have no complaints, we found some areas with little or no signal but that could have also been the case for other networks as we where remote ish but not miles and miles from anywhere. I digress, the thing with 3 is ending the contract!!! They use an offshore call center and believe me, they do all they can to keep you on there network. While being polite, it took me 30minutes to finally get it across, I was leaving. The reason, purely and simply, I don't use anything like the calls, txt or data and would prefer to be on a monthly plan such as what GiffGaff offer. I still have a GiffGaff sim with some credit on, in an older phone, so will revert back to that when or just before my contract ends. You have to give 3, 30 days notice or they will roll it over until the next month. IF you ask for a PAC code, no problem but you only have 20 days ish to activate it or they consider your staying with 3 and continue your contract. That's from the day you apply for the PAC. At this time, I don't want to be tied to a contract and certainly don't want the hassle of ending one. When the wife phoned to end hers, I told her to say she was leaving the country for a year or two, still took her 20 minutes of useless talk.
Finally, has anyone got any up to date reviews on TPO (The Peoples Operator)? They have a sim only plan for 500min, unl txt and 1Gb data for £3.99 which would be ample for my use. They say they are 30 day rolling but not sure if that involves a contract or are they similar to GiffGaff where you can do as you please?
  • I got a retention deal off EE the other day, for another 12 month contract.

    30GB 4G data.
    Unlimited calls & EU.
    Unlimited text.

    This is priced at £41/£41.99?

    My price £21.00

Funny you should say that - I was on the exact same deal, but paying £26.00.

I wanted to lower my data to one of these packages: 20GB - £21.00 or 25GB - £26.00.
They wouldn't budge on the price, they were offering the same deal to new customers - I'm an existing customer with £15.00 "loyalty" on my account &!i had to pay the same price

I ended up ringing them back saying - Listen! Cancel my accout, I'm not interested! What is the point in having a loyalty scheme, when new customers get the same deals?

It actually worked out cheaper for me stopping with this deal, than lowering the data for a cheaper price - They only could knock off £1 on the other 2 packages.

It's for the same package (more or less) that you have in the U.K. The good news is you can also call EU mobiles and land lines from your U.K. mins while roaming... the bad news is you are limited to typically spending more time in the UK than Europe over a 120 day period, otherwise you may incur additional charges.

30GB sounds alot, do you actually go through that each month??
Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!
  • Three currently offer 30GB, unlimited mins and texts, for £18/month.

A few years ago I used to get 16GB & that wasn't enough, so when I upgraded to the 30GB package, I noticed it was too much - But being the person I am, I'm sure as hell not wasting it.

I tether my phone to my bluray player & will stream 1 or 2 4K ultraHD programs, - That normally blitz's a few megabits.

The agents I've spoken to over the passed few days, when looking at me account, have been stunted when noticing how much data I go through :rotfl:

I was looking at Three deals, I didn't notice that one - I like EE's speeds & it's always been reliable for me. I asked a guy a work about who's on Three a few questions & he didn't really give me a straight answer, plus we did a speed test & EE seemed to be the fastest.
