Because they are more portable than a laptop,
    Long battery life,
Saves taking the laptop from room to room
Some of the apps are brilliant
    Convenience
    Etc etc
And because it was a gift
The kids love there tablets too

My 80 quid android tablet is the best gadget I've ever bought :)
I wouldn't have a laptop if you gave it me for nothing

I can carry the tablet anywhere in the house

The laptop, 90% of the time, is USB'd to the printer and desktop HDDs, so is less than portable.

Even when it is portable, it's slower to start up than the tablet, heavier, runs out of battery quicker, and, if I go out of range from the wireless router, it doesn't have the 3G that the tablet does.

I can hold the tablet in one hand, not the laptop

    etc
    etc

  • People buy tablets because it is the current in thing. Same when Netbooks first hit the market.

Also ideal if you do a lot of air travel.

the weight of a tablet compared to laptop when it comes to the weight you can take with you.

average laptop 2.4KG then you have bag/charger etc, so you could say 3.5KG
    average tablet with charge 1KG

big difference if you take it as hand luggage with a max. 5KG or even in a 15KG allowed suitcase
