coal fire replacment

all the rage or not, I remember them being bloody hard work, filty, dusty, dirty, having to bring coal in from the coal bunker outside......cleaning the grate out, making knots of newspapers, chopping sticks, I'll stick to my nice clean, flick of a swith gas central heating, thank you very much.
One of the first things I did when I moved into my current home was to get a wood burning stove installed in the empty fireplace.
Gas central heating may be very convenient, but you can't beat curling up in front of a real fire on a cold winter's night. Most of the time, the fire's more interesting than what's on TV!If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I love a real fire, granted it a pain, but its worth it when your sitting snuggled up, snow falling outside, ah happy days, I will stick with my fire xi came into the world with nothing, and guess what? i still have it!!!:p0

If you're making any significant change to your fireplace, then you should really get HETAS registered installer. The registration allows them to sign off their own work - make sure you get a copy of the form, and read the small print carefully (I discovered just in time that I was supposed to send one copy off to HETAS).
Otherwise, you have to notify your local council's Building Control department and pay their inspections fees.
Of just do it illegally, and don't tell anybody.
If it sticks, force it.
