I have a nice photo on my work ID badge. It was taken for my driving licence and when I started at the library shortly after I used it again there. It's now about five years old.

So I was none too happy when helping a customer and he blurted out "blimey, how old is that photo?" I felt about 108 yrs old.

I had to have a new photo taken when we moved offices a couple of months ago.

Owing to the harsh overhead lighting (that's my story and I'm sticking to it) I have a bald spot and a beard

Actually, it would be a fitting tribute to finish this thread with our MSE unsung heroes... who else would people nominate?

In addition to dunstonh, there's jamesd on the pensions board, G_M on the housing board, and Dave Ham / Holly Hobby / kingstreet / silvercar on the mortgages board.

I didn't know silvercar 'knew anything' if you see what I mean..... just thought she was here chatting about stuff she buys and where she goes :)

EdInvestor was a legend. There are some real gems out there on the boards. CIS works in council tax and is brilliant at advising people who want to know about the ins and outs of payment. Lincroft used to work for the VOA and is an expert on housing valuation and is really great with council tax appeals. It frustrates me a bit when they are out their slogging their guts out helping people and don't get thanked for it. DunstonH is also great on the pensions front.

Second DunstonH. LazyDaisy a retired solicitor on employment and a former employment barrister SarEl who was also excellent if a little unkind at times so got PPRd then founded a site of her own.

Then there are a whole bunch of wise people who give polite plain alternative perspectives on personal situations and relationships, taking the emotion out of things acting like the open best friend advisor that few have in RL, and I am sure providing a counselling service the NHS could not hope to replicate.

Shows just how bad the lighting is........
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

Tinkering is inevitable, I'm afraid. The alternative would be to jump straight to an affordable set-up in one huge leap that would be so utterly unpalatable to almost everybody that there would be riots etc. But there's no money to sustain it the way it has been. I can't see any other prospect than chipping away at it every so often. :(

There's a lot about Macchiavelli on the telly around now. He always claimed you should do all the unpopular stuff in one burst with some underling looking responsible. Do good stuff every day with no intermediary to soak up the praise.

I suspect they'd be better getting the pension age raised incrementally in fractions of years so there's no soundbites or slogans you could generate like "68 is too late" and so on.

My nomination would be Grumbler on the phone threads. Polite, helpful, omnipresent and a mine of useful information and nobody seems to thank him.

I am always a bit surprised when I hear that NP are regulars on other threads. Some referred to grabbit..I had never even looked at that board. Most other boards are a foreign country to me.

Now silvercar has been outed as an expert, I am still going to treat her the same, but feel smaller.

Artful lodger on the house buying renting etc board. Others on there too, but it's a while since I've been there and I have trouble remembering names of pixels. I think there was also one called prince of pounds, or something like that???
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
