The older you get, the harder it becomes to get picked for a job. A recent report said a woman of 50, laid off, if not working after a year is more likely to die than get another job.

Well, that's really cheered me up:eek:

I know that there's no easy alternative, but this is why I don't understand why people are so fatalistic about it and don't plan. Of course it isn't possible for everyone, but I suspect we all know people for whom it is possible but just don't get round to it.

I worry about some of my friends sometimes. Not going to give any details about that on a public forum, though.

I was chatting to one of the finance people at work the other day. I don't know her well but we were both at the coffee machine and I asked her how things were going. She said it was very busy in her office, implementing all the new pension regulations. I said I presumed almost all the teachers would be in the TPS, and she said, yes, the teachers weren't the problem, but the support staff. She said auto-enrolment had got all sorts of them thinking about pension provision who'd never given it any thought at all before, and were shocked to realise how little they'd have, and how long ago they ought to have started dealing with it.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I have a nice photo on my work ID badge. It was taken for my driving licence and when I started at the library shortly after I used it again there. It's now about five years old.

So I was none too happy when helping a customer and he blurted out "blimey, how old is that photo?" I felt about 108 yrs old.

When I look in the mirror there's a youthful person in their mid/late 30s looking back .... but the selfie on my mobile says there's an old woman looking back ....

They say cameras don't lie - I've now got proof it does :)

My brother had a crush on Jessica from Logan's Run, it was a great programme to watch as a teenager, when 30 seemed really, really old.

I remember in the book 21 years old was the, er, cut-off point,

I bought past added years to top up my pension so I can retire at 65 but got a nice letter saying I can't retire until I'm 66. I bet it keeps on receding and it'll end up be like trying to take a close-up photo of the horizon.

To be fair we're stuck in the past with our retirement age; it should be much older and also I reckon we should quit working in stages so we can have time to adjust and pass on our experience to younger staff ( I mean drop to a four-day week then three days etc., taking several years to fully retire).

I bought added years when I was 40. It was the best financial decision I have ever made. Normal retirement age is 60 in the scheme I belong to. Pension can be drawn from 50 with an actuarial reduction for vountary early retirement ...is it the same for you? No actuarial reduction if it is ill heath.

I thought minimum drawing age across all schemes had risen to 55 from 50, unless due to ill health. Hence the recent problems with pensions liberation and companies saying that's not true:

I hope none of the NPs are planning to fly anywhere today.
