In the words of pastures, I don't know what any of this means!:) I am not tech savvy at all!If it's CPU thermal cut-off it should be rather simple to solve.
Is the heatsink still sitting nicely on CPU? Maybe one of those clip thingies to press it on the CPU came loose? Maybe thermal paste should be reapplied....if you were near i'd do it for free.
Isn't there a colleague or a friend who knows their way around a computer case?
That may as well be written in belgian!;):oDoes it blink/beep when you power it on - the pattern of blinks/beeps should tell you (via google) what the issue is. Also do you hear the HD whirring? unfortunately HD failure is probably the most common failure but if this were the case you would still see the bios screens so if it is compeltely dead then the HD can probably be reused even if the mobo or cpu are dead.
When I turn it on now, I don't even get the start up screen. When it shut down before, there was no warning, it would just say "windows is shutting down" & go off.
Now, I turn it on, & it says press f2 for startup menu, or f11 for (some other) menu. Pressing both makes no difference.
Someone did suggest press f8 for reboot menu, but when I do that a whirring noise comes from the tower. But, but, but! You don't need to repair it at all. All you need is to remove the hard disk. Then either put that in another PC or put it in a USB hard disk enclosure.
I'm afraid that PC repair costs can exceed the value of an old machine. Can you describe in some detail what it is? Also, what other PC hardware do you have around?
I have a tablet.:o No hardware - I have no idea what happens with computers. I turn em on & use em!:oIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Aromatherapy moved up to include the cleansing fragrance of bleach. Why do I always forget to put gloves on when I get enthusiastic? Ironically, I would always want to wear gloves when dealing with a horses fragile mouth. On the plus side, at least my hand was super clean when I got a massive splinter the width of a matchstick.0

Calling on the nice people knowledge bank...
Who do you get to move super heavy things that other people don't want to....like wood pellet boilers? The hearing people won't......they say we need specialist heavy removals people cos its so heavy but don't know any one. ( doozer - and co- moved it I think, that guy is STRONG., I 've seen him shift stuff that's made my jaw drop, and consider I'm horsey, so see tiny lads and lasses move heavy stuff often. )0 -

Interesting that it gets as far as posting (which means nodisaterous hardware failure) but won't then go into bios set up (F2 does nothing). I would suspect a mobo failure of some sort. If you buy an external hdd enclosure and appropriate mini usb adaptor you might even be able to read the HD on your tablet - although it is possible your HD is IDE not SATA for which I am not even sure if they do enclosures?I think....0 -

It's that time of year - elf n safety. I don't have a clue - I have a Doozer for that, which is a good thing because I have a bad back now. he used to think I could help him and I didn't realise he was freakishly strong!
He said he would come on a heating day - can it be combined?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

This one does both IDE and SATA. http://www.amazon.co.uk/CiT-3-5-inch-SATA-Enclosure/dp/B00647A4KY
LemonJelly, I don't understand what you are going to do with your photos if you do get them off the tower? Where will you put them? Roughly how many are there?
Are you planning to buy another tower?
How old is the broken one?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Don't have a date yet, don't have confirmation from electricity people its ok...though looks like we can at least run another single phase to here at worst, though he is going to confirm that ....
BUT....
He couldn't lift it alone.....let alone move it, especially over the garden at this time pod year.....I wasn't here when it arrived, but it came in to the Cheese room on its pallet, so guess it came in on one of those pallet trolley thingies with hydrolics unless the digger driver was here........but I am sure they shifted it from cheese room to utility manually.
The plan had been to put the heat pump gubbing internal near down stairs loo, where the cylinder is. Then I heard them. Woah...........those things are LOUD. If it cannot be done, it cannot be done.....we will sound insulate the boxing in there (will sound insulate it where ever actually, S.O.B. but, better out the back, than in the lobby I think. .0 -
