    Perhaps I should.
I really ought try some form of bedsocks too I feel - my feet are always cold in bed.

Electric blanket, pulled down so does feet and legs and lower torso. That's what I do. Back etc warm up quickest in bed, but feet never do without help, so warm them up.

I always kick socks off in bed, so have pretty much given up trying. Most nights even if its bitter I can start off with clothes on but strip in my sleep....

It's his email account, so unless that's been taken over by the Military, it's genuine.

After waking to the sound of my electric blanket shorting & about to burst into flames, I can't bring myself to go for one anymore.
It was scary - you could see the electricity in the wire.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Urban myth. The old saying was that you lose 50% of bodyheat through your head. Load of tosh!

I looked into it a while ago. It is indeed an urban myth that your head intrinsically loses more heat than the rest of you. However, it does (unsurprisingly) lose a lot more heat that the rest of you IF the rest of you is well wrapped up in lots of clothes but you have no hat.

Think of a room with lots of windows. They are all equally able to let heat out of the room, but if one window is wide open and all the rest are shut, then the most effective strategy for warming the room up is to shut that one window. Thus, for a body, your strategy should be to insulate any parts of the body not currently well wrapped up - usually head and often feet too.

Nutcrackers, as in the Nutcracker suite.
Didn't everybody watch that at school?

Well, of course, but I didn't know such things had survived into this century. Learn something new every day, huh?

I would make definite checks - see if he can remember things from the trip that only somebody who had actually been there would know. If he's genuine he'll understand why you want to check up - you can explain that people's email accounts can get hacked etc. And then if it really is him, yes, I'd send some money. As GDB says, there's a chance he'll spend it on arms, but I think there's probably a bigger chance he'll spend it on food and blankets and stuff. Winter is not going to be pleasant in Syria this year.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

    I think - just don't (-:

I adore natural trees. We don't have any type of Christmas tree, but then we're in Kent for at least 10 days, so we do trees and all sorts of decorations there.

My mother has a Christmas tree that includes everything and every colour, and various infant-made decorations, and she comes over all tasteful in the rest of the house.

My ideal would be to have a real tree with roots, in a huge pot that could live in the garden during the year and come into the house for Christmas. We used to have a small one like that when I was a child. Some time in the next few years I'm going to get one of those. In the meantime, we have a cut one, and then LNE's fake one because DD wants it.

She reminded me the other day of the trip he made to India, about a year before he died, that was something to do with recruiting Indian doctors to work in this country. (He was a hospital manager.) She tells me she pretends to herself that he has just gone to India for a very long time to recruit lots of doctors, and that's why she can't see him. :(

    Oh poor you.

The thing with shell fish is that when it doesn't sit well it makes it very, very clear. Shell fish food poisoning is always the worst!

M&S have just recalled some mussels that they have found to be dodgy.

So, so glad I don't eat shell fish.

Walnuts are normally possible two together in one had, brazil nuts not a hope - however we haven't had nuts for a few years cos of DS allergy. His annual check was due in October, rang the hospital to find out why no appointment to be told the consultant had left so we are now on a waiting list which of course they had not bothered to tell us....

Same here, except this is all self diagnosed so we don't retest as we were advised that testing is just introducing a nut and watching for a response; the more times you meet a nut the higher risk of a worse reaction.

Are pistachios ok? I ask because DS2 can eat almonds with no problems.

I had typed a long response to PN and then it disappeared.

    I would
    a) get your new phone and type the numbers into it.
    b) find the cheapest tesco mobile tariff that suits
    c) get a PAC code from t-mobile and give it to tesco mobile.

=job done, no cutting SIM cards, no phone unlocking, a lot less hassle.

Any one know where good places for men's pants are? Preferably in bright but not lurid colours? I'm wondering if somewhere like h and m are worth looking at? He doesn't want ones that go baggy ( who does? ) or are ' too thick' again, who does?

Silvercar? Your son might be and expert in the underwear purchase iirc?
