Fun fact - blue badge fraud is the biggest volume of fraud in the UK currently.
.
And one of the reasons I'm so hesitant to apply.
The criteria for a blue badge are very tight. If you don't get dla or its successor the distance you are meant to be able to walk is actually only 50 or 100 metres unassisted or without severe pain. There is no 'worst day" proviso or anything like that on the paper work.
To think about that next time you are at a supermarket guesstimate how far 100 m would get you in a shop. I cannot do a full shop from my car in 50 metres, and I personally hate doing a full shop at a supermarket.
A supermarket ATM is one of the few places I can go fairly relaibly midweek because the parking is there and level. But then on other days I can totter round a city (but might need a couple of days rest to recover).0 -

I was going to order 3 or 4 lots (OH will need factor 10,000 and I will need 30 and a 15) I just assumed that they will stick it all in a big box and demand a signature then I'll be screwed and have to spend my weekend trying to retrieve it from the miserable post office with its 4 mile long queue as that's normally what happens when I order anything online.
You can't be the only one in that position. There's definitely a need for a service so people can collect their stuff locally after work. Amazon do have the Amazon Locker Delivery service and the Collect+ service, which cover that, but I'm surprised that it hasn't caught on much, much more.No reliance should be placed on the above! I know others have said that you should apply, & tbh what you've posted above is basically what you need to say on your application (though I'd expand on the fact that when you go tottering round a city there is usually someone with you, & also note how frequently you may stop/pause for a brief rest. The fact that you may need the recovery time highlights the issues & therefore the need!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Is there going to be panic on the rest of the boards today? I ask, as there is now media talk of raising interest rates...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

My GP said not to tell them about the good days. That to me feels wrong. And yes, fraudulent.
Thing is, while I KNOW there is a lot of fraud about these things I also wonder now is sometimes that people are in need of something but just don't fit that criteria.....
I've decided (mainly by inaction) not to apply until I have no choice.0 -

It looks likely to be a year or so yet. They will go up at some point though.
Normal interest (base) rates with inflation at 2% and GDP growth at 2-2.5% and unemployment at 5-6% would be about 5%. That implies mortgage rates of 6-7%. Just sayin'.
It was a glorious ride in to work again today. Home was a it uncomfortable as I didn't eat enough today to fuel the ride home. Still the weight is coming down so a little pain in the ride home is fruitful at least.
They've set up some old fashioned deck chairs on a patch of AstroTurf opposite my work so I went and sat in one of those and read the paper for half an hour at lunchtime. It was very relaxing although I probably should have used some sunscreen.0 -
Homes Under the Hammer right now was an old Victorian building on the sea front of Margate with shops underneath and PP for 6 flats - guide £220k, sold for £245k.
The man's going to put in PP to have it as a Boutique Hotel.
Will update figures/info later when they do the revisit.
Thought this might be of vague interest to NPs who own property there
Update: They created it. Sands Hotel. 20 bedrooms. Bar/restaurant on whole of ground floor. Ice cream parlour. Bar/restaurant thriving; bookings picking up
10 months of build. Nick and Conrad are the two blokes that did it. Put a Manager in place but they will be involved day-o-day
July 2013 - agents visit: "Done exactly the right thing; Margate was overloaded with property". "Lovely, stunningly converted." "Tough one to value". Hotels normally valued after trading 3 years. Hard to put a price on. Building £600-700k; £1.2-1.5 million if sold as a going concern.
Spent: Wouldn't say, but over £1million
Website, but it's broken at the moment sandshotelmargate.co.uk/0
