Also a very busy morning which included a meeting with the head of 6th form for middle son as it appears his support has completely disappeared...seems people magically get better when they reach 6th form and no longer need the help their statement has provided for the last 10 years.
Oh Sue. I hope that wretched school gets its act sorted out soon. There have been too many episodes like this.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I agree with Lydia, presumably the school are receiving extra money reflecting your boys' additional needs, I would have thought not spending the money on them amounted to fraud.I think....0 -
Frost here this morning...made my car CD player go silly.

.
What did the head of 6th form say?
How does the transition from statement level support through sixth form and on to higher education work?
My DD was not statemented however has some challenges which were assessed and she was given a laptop, 'special' software and mentoring when at University for her undergraduate degree.
For her MA there was no support requested or offered and we did not think it a problem until she asked OH to look at some graphs she had done in excel as they did not fit with other qualitative findings , and he and found almost all of her interpretations were back to front.0 -
I have no idea to be honest, middle son is the first of mine to transition while statemented as James was not statemented.
The head of 6th form gave the excuse that the person who dealt with student issues had left and they were waiting for someone else to be appointed (goodness knows why the SENCO doesn't have involvement now) but he would have a word with middle son in a bid to make him feel more supported. He did have a word and middle son now feels a little better but in practical terms, it really doesn't address the problem.....
James without a statement was much better supported, had much more help and that help continues in university...but then, James has always been very vocal about what help he needs and is very forthright when it comes to getting it whereas middle son is much quieter and things will build up until he finally has enough and will tell me, hence why I knew nothing about it until the end of last week!
Arrgghhhh, now battling to get both younger boys' statements met as youngest's has all but disappeared again this term!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

I wouldn't be surprised if support doesn't disappear without a re-assessment once a pupil is beyond what was, until recently, school leaving age. I would have thought that a school would only be able to offer a sixth form place if they were able to put the facilities in place to offer appropriate support.michaels wrote:I agree with Lydia, presumably the school are receiving extra money reflecting your boys' additional needs, I would have thought not spending the money on them amounted to fraud.
My background in this is out of date, but I would have expected a reassessment. Not least because in studying only 3 or 4 subjects and already knowing how well you can do them, for some pupils the problems go away.
When I worked in FE, the statements never followed the students. They always had to be re-assessed from scratch, even if the last statement was recent.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Envious of lj's Public Service Broadcasting concert. I know someone who went to a concert in Brum the other day, a band called Mott the Hoople and guessing not many here will remember them.:)
Roll Away the Stone remains a favourite!
@Single sue - all I can do is wish you good luck, even I would hae thought it would be easy to continue the support, it isn't as if it is something new.

Reassessment sounds sensible for the reasons you mention, but discontinuing support while making no attempts to reassess is ridiculous.Do you know anyone who's bereaved?
