Thanks for that direct experience NDG. If that was Mr Bugs wish, then I'd support him, however with not knowing, I'm finding it difficult to make a decision not to send him to hospital. I don't feel he has quite got to that point yet. I'd like to think he would just go quietly, but physically he is quite healthy, so I think the decision will have to be made at some point

It's certainly harder than putting a dog down and that's hard enough.:(

I'm sorry if I sounded bossy, I wasn't meaning to say it was the right decision. And it's such a horrible decision for you to have to make <hugs>

No you didn't at all, it's good to hear any thoughts at this point.

AIUI there was slow, low economic growth during the 1920s. Given that was off the back of such a major war that would have felt a lot like a recession.

There were just short of 3 million people killed or wounded in the First World War, and then all the flu deaths in 1918-1920; dealing with that would have been extremely difficult in so many ways, economically, socially, and all the rest of it, that I suppose the dislocation in families and communities prevented any feeling of improving times, even if there was gradual economic growth.

Oh dear. I really feel for you, bugslet. Not being able to manage to do something for oneself doesn't necessarily meant that if you can't or won't do it, that you should be allowed to shuffle off. If you're going to make the hospital decision, then make it as quickly as you can. Dehydration can lead to horrible, nasty water infections and cause people to be more confused, which just adds all sorts of new problems and conundrums.

fc too, things sound scary, but a little more positive than they were. Love to you and yours.

Puts my tribulations this morning in perspective. I'm just feeling sorry for myself and annoyed.

I made the decision on Friday that if his fluid intake falls again, he is to go into hospital.

    What's annoying you?

FC, lots of love to you. Supporting someone you love is waring and draining and probably scary too. :(

My sympathy for your mother and her fellow patients livers are tremendous. As an undergrad last minute cramming advice from a lecturer included that if we were ever stubling for what to write out something about the liver...it was almost cat only involved somehow in whatever we were writing about. And also to the stories one hears in hospital.. My last eye clinic went really well, but I was doing my tests in the room with a guy who was not doing well. He was failing miserably and our beebs were putting each other off, in fact, i kept think my tests were finished from his beebs. later he was told there was nothing further they could do to save his sight, while I was told mine were doing so much better than consultant wa expecting from the notes and I was ok and didn't have to go back for a year all going well.

You can see how people lose a little 'sensitivity' when the dice roll as they do in health. Its a nasty old game.

FC hopefully this is where your mothers good diet will make the difference, her resilience and discipline will help.

Thanks for all the supportive comments, means a lot.

We do feel very out of the loop as we don't feel she is being 'inquisitive' enough when she talks to the doc in the mornings. She is alone during the ward rounds and there are more questions we want her to ask but she doesn't. I think it's a generational thing to some extent.

It doesn't help that the bulk of our knowledge on the workings of bile ducts and livers comes from a google search and we then match it up to the inof she is given.

The bad news is she is now not being discharged today as they are worried it will dislodge itself. I hate to feel so uninformed and powerless and I know she is desperate to go home so will be devastated at this news.

The eye thing is awful....our builders son has a degenerative eye disease that was inherited and will be blind before he is 35. He is already on + 12.5 at age 26.

We'll think of you out there reading; typing can be tough at times like this as your head's full of stuff but you don't want to do an outpouring or 'burden' people with a 'downer'

But maybe reading the normalness of the NP thread meandering along will bring you some relief at some points.

    *hugs*
That's exactly how I felt PN (in bold).
Your house hunting chat was interesting...any further progress? Don't get too bogged down in whys and wherefores and just concentrate on finding the most suitable property for you within a comfortable budget

On the DIY board there was a link the other day to the clingfilm type stuff, so it does still exist.

That's a lovely thought and expression Spirit.

On Friday night discussions were had about the way forward with Mr Bugs. Some days he doesn't eat or drink and it's down to me to decide what happens, hospital or a managed shuffle off. Never realised that it would get to that point. I suppose if he was able he could choose to refuse food and fluids, since he isn't able, I get to think about it. I have chosen the go to hospital for intravenous fluids option; dying of dehydration does not sound pretty.

Posted at the same time, lovely photo NDG :-)

I liked Sprits line too......it reads so well.

Sorry to hear of this Bugs, I don't have any advice but thinking of you.

....and my kids always used the same bathwater. When we had no shower, we always ran one bath and often 3 people would use it one after the other if it didn't get too cold.

Somehow, I feel that my personal difficulty about not having phone lines does not seem all that serious. It all falls into perspective when I hear about real problems and dilemmas. My love to both of you, and Bugs you can only make the best decision you can at the time.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Meh, the fabric of life has these different threads in it. They are all part of its varied texture, if we didn't hear about them all it wouldn't be 'real' you know?

Mushrooms, herts, livers and life and death, houses and heartache and who to put in a bathtub. I think its all serious, even the funny stuff. The little things combined apcan pull us down terribly...(the things with my health I get most upset about are my weight and skin....not the ruddy great swelling in my brain:rotfl:) and the things that serve best to pick us up again are often the simple things too.....the little laughter a, the simple unity of smiles and conversation.

Just feeling sorry for myself. Sometimes I feel like like I'm doing a decent job, yet there's always someone to point out, on those occasions, what I haven't done for them. I feel taken for granted and like everyone else's possession.

What I signed up for, I guess.

EDIT: And there's LIR to make us feel better for trivial worries about phone lines and being grumpy. :)

    . :)

As far as I can tell, you can do brilliantly all the time and the one time you mess up, then you'd better run! It is annoying!
