These figures quoted are frightening for properties around London. I shudder to think what they will be in a decade...:(0 -

Our last property backed onto a train line and we were more than happy with the figure that we achieved. Do not despair you will get the property that is right for you Chewy....0 -
Thanks very much. I'll just walk up and buy a ticket, then. Tube is free for me, as I'm aged.
My poor old Dad gets that free travel in London thing too - and reduced travel on national trains. Means that QCs over 60 can afford to put a second bar on their electric fires in the winter, and have an extra tin of baked beans........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I keep forgetting that. Not that you are aged, but that within the Greater London boundary it is free. We are about a mile outside the boundary. Bit odd as the agent didnt even try to get us to up our bid - presumably the other bid was much higher. I said we might go to £550k but that was still well below the other offer, apparently. I think they must be bonkers if they have gone anywhere near the asking price, frankly.

OH is scared of fireworks so tonight is interesting...
That's a very good house for the London area. Not sure it's impressing NPs from Greater Hertfordshire but you're lucky to find a place with so many rooms and potential.
We've a 4-bed semi, not too different but yours is halls-adjoining and a bit of a find. With its own parking.
Not a fan of the price though. A half-a million-plus pricetag is just bonkers. Good luck with the rest of your search. My pal got a great house practically in central Kingston, near the river on a quiet street that the kids could play in. 4 beds. Better not tell you how many houses they looked at before they decided on it.:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

We did look at a house whose back fence was the Greater London boundary. There was a gate in the back fence that led into a park that was in Surrey "proper". We ended up buying somewhere a few hundred yards from the boundary where when I walk the dog I can cross out of London within 15 mins walking. I can walk it myself in about 10 mins but the dog's to incentivise the walk not force the pace.;)
So do I get free transport when I hit my next major birthday? Hmmm! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I am an Unhappy Person.
I'm instructed on a full judicial review on Thursday - permission was granted on 8th may 2013 to seek JR, and the Defendant ordered to serve detailed grounds in response within 21 days of 8th May (usually, the Defendant gets 35 days, but this was expedited).
The detailed grounds of defence, which my solicitors have been chasing for months, were drafted on 1st November and served yesterday, and represent a big change from the summary grounds of defence filed and served before permission was considered and granted.
So now we're late with our skeleton, and I'm trying to get the whole damn thing done now, for service tomorrow. A situation caused entirely by the Defendant's complete disregard for the Civil Procedure Rules. What I want to do is go to bed - I'm very tempted to stop trying to draft the whole damn skeleton, which is quite a big job, and apply instead to adjourn, and for the Defendant to pay the costs thrown away....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
OH has however texted me to say how rough it has been, so much so that the ferry is going to be late in.My parent's house which is a similar size and age but a hell of alot easier on the eye to look at, is worth over 400k less than that!
Mines worth nearly 500k less, doesn't need much but tarting up doing , large seperate garage and large garden. I really cannot understand how anyone can afford houses in the SE.Amazed by all the clothes-washing strategies described here!
!
Me too. White wash, coloureds wash all at 30/ 40. Towels and bedding at 60. One laundry basket.0 -

I am allowed to veto for one thing - distance from the train station. For everything else, my opinion carries a voting weighting of 49.9999999999%.0
