Hi all - sorry not to have checked in earlier. Baby all fine, happy, bouncing around and being a bit difficult to check!

    ...
I'm going to bed soon, so will catch up on the thread tomorrow.

    Best news on the thread...
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

That's one of the things I love about bowls.
Playing with the team, you're in a match, & yes, there is competition. Believe me there's competition (people are always surprised to hear about the fights!).
At the same time, having a roll up on your own, especially when the weather is gorgeous, is fantastic. & you can (if so inclined) have a drink whilst playing.

Personally, I tend to have ice cream in the summer whilst playing!:o

I recall working in 1 place where the stress was really getting to me. I'd leave daily at 4pm, head for the bowling green, & whilst the rush hour was going on around me, I'd play a gentle game on my own.

    Kept me sane...

Oh I drank while playing some of my sports. Notably equestrian ones) And I was enjoying them, and laughing etc , but in retrospect even when laughing it off I wanted to do well. Also, when there is no challenge, or less challenge or something is more or less understood I want to do something else :o. I don't lose interest in the first thing, but I like to always be struggling at the learning stage of something. I am aware a lot of my friends found this frustrating about me. :o.

I don't seem to have a competitive bone in my body, whatever I do should be enjoyable, when I sued to play tennis what mattered was it was fun and I hit some good shots, having fun an dloosing was infintiely prefereable to grinding out a win whilst curbing my natural flair (well enthusiasm might be a better word than flair at the level I played).

D sis is in the process of moving the 10 year old daughter to another school - I suspect one reason will be that she hasn't been making enough 'progress'. My DKs are doing OK and enjoying life, I'm sure they could be 'making more progress' and higher up their class but does it mtter if it is at the expense of their health or happiness.

Today I am unhappy about the cold - cold fingers and I am sitting all hinched which will mean beign stiff and achey later. We can acheive a warm home using a thermostat, what is the excuse in a multi-million pound office building?!
    I think....

We had a couple of really excellent tennis players at school. I used to do everything I could at times to get picked against them if I were on tennis because if I were going to play tennis I wanted to improve my game. Its was not about winning for me, its about improving, all the time getting better. :o. I didn't like getting out with weak players because it wasn't 'fun' which is very mean of me. I wasn't brilliant, but I was ok. So I wanted to play with the brilliants so I could become rather good. :). I liked tennis. The idea of any form of competitive tennis would have bored me to tears I think. At least with ponies you have some one to talk to while waiting.

I was OK with anyone who wanted to hit, whether I was learning from them or they from me. Those who didn't want to tak epart were more of a drag but why shoudl everyone be interested?

  • Its a cat, not a dog, so it means keeping my cats in for six weeks or so, so they'll be grumpy, and its only been a house cat before, so when it goes back it goes from new found free range to captivity again. I don't think that's fair( though think house cats can be).

That's why Yossie's now with my parents.

Yossie and ELijah were indoor-only cats, but there were two of them, so they kept each other amused, and they had a cat tree and other fun and games. Then ELijah died at the age of 3, and Yossie stayed with my parents, and it became clear he loved going outside. So bringing him back to the flat in London seemed rather unfair, and he relocated permanently to Kent.

I really hope that NDG is ok. I'm guessing that she isn't due to the lack of news.

Mrs Generali miscarried before Generalissimo #1 was born and it was horrible. Thoughts are absolutely with her.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be selfishly silent - just seemed really nice not touching my computer all weekend, and I went to bed very early, anyway. Apologies all.

There's an invention they've developed that straps to your writst and heats or cools your body and fools it into thinking the temperature's warmer than it really is.

I'm not happy with that as it just sounds like a comfortable way to get hypothermia. :(

    What happens if:
    a) You bring a sweater to wear?
    b) You bring a fan heater (and plug it in)?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
