It's always a bonus to find Father Ted is on when looking for something to watch
I'm sure I've seen most of them too, but I don't remember that one either!0 -
I'd have liked tennis.... I went to two schools, the first one "taught tennis" properly - but I fell foul of the teacher when I didn't ever do the homework. I couldn't do the homework because it involved watching Wimbledon on the telly, to learn and discuss it at the next lesson. And I didn't have a telly.lostinrates wrote: »We had a couple of really excellent tennis players at school. I used to do everything I could at times to get picked against them if I were on tennis because if I were going to play tennis I wanted to improve my game. Its was not about winning for me, its about improving, all the time getting better.
. I didn't like getting out with weak players because it wasn't 'fun' which is very mean of me. I wasn't brilliant, but I was ok. So I wanted to play with the brilliants so I could become rather good.
. I liked tennis. The idea of any form of competitive tennis would have bored me to tears I think. At least with ponies you have some one to talk to while waiting.
Then I changed schools and they didn't teach tennis. Instead, they had 3 ropey nets down a piece of tarmac - and 5-6 pairs spaced out and you just hit the ball back and forth, never played tennis, you just hit the ball back and forth over the net (if you were lucky enough to be at a part that had a net and wasn't just a gap).
If I were wealthy I'd have played tennis over the years - looked into the prices 3-4 years ago but it was expensive.
When I was about 14-15 we had a couple of old, warped, tennis raquets, with just a few broken strings. And an old tennis ball. I used to cycle up to the school grounds and hit the tennis ball off the wall for awhile.0 -

I'll sip a coffee and eye the little green cakes that look like saddleback pigs with round envious eyes.
Are you arranging this birthday bash then PN? Can you PM The date to Spirit and I so we can see if we can both do it?0 -

There is a Swedish restaurant near us which sells meatballs. £12.50, and they tasted exactly the same as the Ikea ones as far as I could make out. Next time I'm going to drive to Croydon instead.
My parents are due to visit this weekend. They are taking me to Ikea
I'm not sure how long a shopping list they think I have, but my dad has said they're coming the night before to make sure we have an early start  and have time to go elsewhere if I can't find what I'm after.
So far my shopping list is: an uplighter, some tealights.
I will be trying to delay our leaving time so that we have meatballs for lunch/ dinner.0 -

Fab stuff in the marketplace. When I went, in 2007, Ikea was cheap, but the prices have gone up a lot. I bought two brilliant toy boxes (also act as seats for kids) - £7 each; now they're £11! http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20078031/My parents are due to visit this weekend. I also picked up two plates at 19p each and a couple of good sized cereal bowls for the same price. At the time I bought cheap, on the basis that I could walk away and leave them when I moved out..... they were perfectly good items! They are now 40p http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00133123/ http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80133124/ - if I were buying again I'd get some of those.
I always have to go everywhere twice. Once to get my bearings ..... then I know what they've got and can think about what I want. I can't be going/buying on one day as I am too unsure/indecisive to make decisions about buying stuff.
I was very impressed by Wilkinsons - I got a cheery washing up bowl for just over £1 and a dish drainer - and a pyrex measuring jug for about £1 and two small cereal bowls for about 65p.0 -

Never fear, after not finding any furniture you want, you'll head on to the homeware section and manage to fill up a trolley with cheap tat that you don't really want. Bundled of coat hangers are a personal trolley filler favourite of mine (tea lights are another classic but you already have that covered).0 -
I always buy straws. I drink everything I can out of straws and ATM I have run out.

I think the secret with a washing basket for one is to get the right sized laundry basket and lob stuff in it - when it's full it's a machine-full, so you do it; then the basket's empty, so it's at the machine and available to empty the wet washing into.
Have to get the right size though so that system works.0 -

You must get hold of a catalogue in advance and mark up items you are interested in. Otherwise you will follow the whole route round the store, reach the end and realise you haven't seen something you want. At least with the catalogue marked up you can ask an assistant where to find the item in the warehouse section.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
