Sigh, no, because minevwon't notice or react at all!
Its a cat, not a dog, so it means keeping my cats in for six weeks or so, so they'll be grumpy, and its only been a house cat before, so when it goes back it goes from new found free range to captivity again. I don't think that's fair( though think house cats can be).
People are just used to me being ill. Because I don't talk about it in real life and don't socialise much any more people probably just think I've gone to seed and gone batty. Who knows.0 -

Who do NP buy for?
Mrs McT.
Parental one.
Brother and in-laws.
Assorted friends. That is £550+ which is good.
I wish.....:o
I'll be lucky if the "assorted friends" category comes to less than that.
The other three combined will be an order of magnitude greater.
The parental one is getting old and ditzy, and has been babbling endlessly about a conservatory, or summer house, or something garden-y that I don't understand the point of but will happily provide if it keeps them happy.
The (younger) brother has (finally) got his act together in life and requires many things, which I am happy to assist with if it means he can catch up.
And Mrs McT is, well, Mrs McT..... So I shall probably need to build an extension to keep up with her increasingly Esmerelda Marcos-ish collection of shoes.
Although given the fact that she puts up with me unreservedly, that's likely to be the best investment I ever make.

LiR, you have given the best answer. There is self preservation in this. Those who think you arein the wrong are not the ones who would have the work/tie/emotional commitment/financial risk.
This is not their call and IMO they should shut up unless the voice an opinion to support you. (I never use this exprssion - NP mode well and truly off).
I am getting annoyed with people who recommend/risk/dispense others resources, be they emotional, health, assets or time .
Too often NP post of their experiences of this. May be a flaw in being a NP.
I think I am way past anyone doing it to me anymore (or I am not Nice) and I want to 'rescue' you.0 -

Urgh... I've tried writing a response to that 3 times but deleted for letting rip at the other person who I do not know. But you are not batty, you are not going to seed and the other person sounds insensitive and self centred for not realising how much they would be putting on both you and your home setting. Plenty of people will take in a cat. The degree of difficulty they were implying suggested to me that it was an alpaca or something a bit more exotic. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Super generous, Spirit.
I've gone without a present from DH the last two years. We've agreed not to do presents with the proper grown ups in the family. DD has made a list of the grown ups and wants to spend some of her money on them/us. Her budget is £30, bless her. I will buy for my children; going to try and stick to £100 as we're going on holiday an agreed that this is our main present to each other. I will buy for younger cousins, both in 20s, probably £25 each and cousin's daughter.
We're not very popular with the neighbours, so I needn't worry about them.
Whatever we can afford on top we will spend on each other, but DH does owe me this year.
I really enjoy shopping for presents but I have terrible and almost unfailing habit of falling ill with exhaustion during the main event and I'd quite like to just enjoy it instead of listening from bed or feeling like I'm dying on the sofa.

If it makes you feel any better, everyone I know thinks I've gone batty, and I don't even have the excuse of being ill....

Who do NP buy for?
Parents, no set budget, more dependent on need.
Brother, sis in law and respective partners, we did go mad in past but have all reined in.
Nephews, more spent on child ones.
Closest cousins and their families... little pressies
Aunt, similar
Husband... depends on how flush I am but main spend is here
Friends..
I buy a lot of things abroad that the kids can't get here so this affords cool aunty status. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
