Talking of James, he has managed to get himself a girlfriend whilst at Uni. Weirdly, she orginally comes from the town we are connected to but he had never met her before because she moved abroad with her family several years ago. The only problem now is he wants to bring her home with him this weekend (he is coming back for a birthday bash)

Mine have never brought a girlfriend home. Think they would be worried that we would ask too many questions.

DS1 once had a female friend to stay for the weekend and none of us knew if she was a GF or not. DS2 (then 13) got in a right tizz about how embarrassing it would be if they slept together and I should forbid it at home. She wasn't a GF so problem never arose, but he did get in a state about it before hand. Given the situation has not yet arisen, I've not even considered my response.

How will you accommodate her, Sue? IIRC, usually you and youngest have a room each, and James shares with middle son, with nowhere spare for visitors?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Glad to hear the 'former' bit.

Are you joining us next week Spirit?
Probably a bloody accountant or something. Lucky escape.

I don't regard tyre-changing ability as essential in a man - while OH can do everything like that, my Dad can't - can't change a tyre, a plug or a fuse, and definitely can't put up a shelf or anything. My mother can do all that, though (-: And my Dad definitely has other talents.

What programmes/software do NPs run that they couldn't live without?

I use Open Office, which I think is great, and I couldn't live without Ameol, my email off-line reader.

  • Really almost a whole day with no posts?
What have you all been doing?

We went to Kent on Friday evening, (me and Isaac, OH stayed at home to start his marathon training). On Saturday, we got up revoltingly early, and went to Battle Abbey for a Norman-and-Saxon camp day, which Isaac absolutely loved.

Every single car there was discharging a group which consisted of various adults and other children, and at least 1 boy aged 6 - 12, waving a wooden sword. Not a car was without its young blood-thirsty sword-wielder.

Then we picked apples and blackberries, and a few tomatoes, and some sloes, and Isaac and Bruv did all that male wrestling thing.

Sunday it absolute wellied down all day, so we had a much quieter time, with quite a bit of chess playing and cooking, although I was obliged to stay out of the way while roast beef was cooking.

Thank you! Wow! That's amazing, congratulations to the neverdespair family! :j

Sorry for not picking up on it before :o

PN is entirely right - I am, due 15th May.

Isaac was born on the younger of my sister's 21st birthday (17th June). I'm heading for a second sister's birthday, as the elder of my younger sisters was born on 9th May.

Assuming you don't have twins which makes it less of an achievement perhaps we are seeing another NP pattern, two of our DKs have the same birthday too.

However nothing to do with wedding anniversaries for us, DW and I celebrate neither anniversaries nor birthdays.
    I think....
