On happy day.
I thought all the builders were coming, but one arrived, I was mildly annoyed, checked my email and I was wrong. I love things like that...being in the wrong and other people not having been a disappointment keeps me loving them. It doesn't happen all that often, and its really heartening (and shows my builders in excellent light, don't you think?).
I have to tell builder who is here I was wrong when I asked we'd here the others were soon....oooops.
I was also in tears when he arrived as was peeling onions for a roast onion and tomato soup. Had to explain I wasn't heartbroken, just cooking for supper......0 -
You know, I do sometimes try and venture back out there as hamish's asked, and then I realise its actually MORE sensible conversation in here talking about estate agents pictures, penis beakers and how long curtains should be and the state of kitchens today.
At least we are prepared to listen to each other in here.
When we dig a tench for oil we're throwing in cable for the CCTV too, and its occurred to me from another thread itsme and davesnave and i are on I could throw down a cable for a satellite for free sat to put a satellite on a barn, but not sure I can be bothered.
I also need to buy a pond filter to put the wire of that down another trench we are digging.0 -
Would it make sense to put a hollow tube in the trench, that you could later feed with whatever cables you want?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. We do that in all our trenches:D. We have tubes going from no where to nowhere with little bits of rope at each end tied to stocks. It all looks a bit forlorn to me:D. We even have an empty duct in the house. :rotfl:0 -

One of the small pleasures of being relatively new to the NP thread, and missing a lot of stuff at the weekend, is that you aren't quite sure what is happening sometimes.
As far as I can tell, either there's an oilwell in the back of lir's garden or she is taking the whole end of the world thing/prepping a tad too seriously by creating booby traps for the hoards trying to get to the last bit of food in the country.;)0 -

We'd love to live 'off grid' but realistically wanted to be content with minimal grid. End of the world...not so much at all, but changing world, possibly. In either case, just the way we want to live is more.....aware of where our resources are going, balancing capital expenditure against ongoing stuff.
This oil thing is a bit of a pita, but if its there as support for something else and barely used longer term then , so be it, if its there as support and used a lot longterm then thanks be to bloody god we have it.
We're not really end of the workers, but we are end of OUR world ers.0 -
Where's the beaker thread on mumsnot?0

PasturesNew wrote: »I have a poor memory when overwhelmed with new places/people. If I had to describe your house I'd say:
2 living rooms, front/downstairs
Kitchen/diner behind those at the back.
New kitchen at the back, making it an L.
Stairs up to landing - 1 front bedroom off that; corridor to a bathroom and bedroom at the back.
Then there's some new bit at the front on the ground floor.
So I've probably forgotten half of it
You have turned the corner too early down stairs.. There is nothing new on the house at all yet, just made good what we had.

That was just too prosaic, I was about to offer you some gun emplacements on the cheap!0
