Our local chippy is great. Their idea of "small" chips and "small" fish are huge by my standards. "Small" chips easily feed me and DD between us. (DS is not fond of chips).

I don't mind those. The ones that annoy me most are the photographs of what people have just cooked and are just about to eat. Why would I want to keep seeing those every few days from the same person?

When I post myself, I make extensive use of the settings for making posts only visible to particular groups of people, and rarely post anything that's visible to all my friends. So I might post something about finally finishing writing my reports for school at 2am, a mere 7 hours before the deadline, but it's not going to be seen by anyone who doesn't work there. I posted something a few weeks ago when it was a significant date with reference to when I married LNE, but I only made it visible to people who had known him, and had known us when we were together.

I love seeing other people's food.

There is a threads in old style for that. I sometimes take inspiration from it. Funnily enough, rarely from the pic posts though. Sometimes it works the other way too.

My nieces and nephews set up a Facebook page for their dog. Then the dog 'friended' me. Then the dog died. So, now, I'm friends with a dead dog.

    Wonderful thing, Facebook.

I know it's sad - I was devastated when avatar-dog died - but I'm afraid I also found that funny, just the way you expressed it. It's been a long week and I'm tired, and laughing at the way you put that post has given me just the lift I needed. Thanks. :)
What happens to facebook pages when people die...they just linger.....receiving friend requests...

You notify FB that they've died, and provide some kind of evidence that you're not making it up - a link to an online death announcement, for example - and they close the page.
But you had the choice in some of that. ;). I think part of PN's gripe is that she has ended up single rather than necessarily choosing single so hasn't been able to say, actually, I'll save some dough and not have kids.

Although I don't necessarily agree with that pov I can see it. :).

But I get michaels's point that we all have bits of our lives that are great and other bits that aren't. Even though PN has had a lot of pants stuff happen to her that wasn't her choice, nevertheless she's succeeded in a bunch of stuff we used to be hoping and hoping for on her behalf - like moving out from her parents' place, and no longer living in a house-share.

It's all so subjective. I know a lot of people look at my life and feel I'm about the last person they'd want to swap with, but actually, I like my life. I have pretty much everything I want except a husband, and although I would like one of those, I'm not going to let the absence of one stop me appreciating the other stuff.

Now not sure whether to post that. Is it smug? If so I'll remove it.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Thank you so much for that. It will change my attitude. Instead of thinking "Stop doing that, you idiot, don't you realise nobody wants to see that," I shall think "I hope some lir-type who likes food posts reads that."

That's the saddest, yet funniest, thing ever.

When you're gone your kids will visit your page and the dog's page ... and cry.

Not smug, triumphant and wonderful and important IMO.

And fwiw, I agree with you pov, just saying I can see why pn feels how she does.

i feel remarkably lucky in life. Would I swap.....? Hmmm. Who with.....?

Heeheee. Glad to help. There are all sorts of that sort of post actually o
N old style I some times post in the meal planning for the week ahead ones.....(helps organise shopping and defrosting, but also I like it because it helps people who aren't used to meal planning to see our menus and to see how we shop.....sort of what Jamie Oliver is doing teaching people how to plan weeks eating, but we have been doing it on old style for a while:rotfl: and also the what's for supper tonight thread.....

I'm one of the more seasonal eaters, so I have to admit seeing year round menus of the same food feels a bit depressing sometimes, but often someone posts something I just wouldn't think of that either is yummy just as it looks or....more likely, can be adapted to what I have in my fridge . Changing the menu plan as the week goes on shows those who struggle to run a kitchen how this sort of thing works for those of us who don't find it hard. Have to admit, haven't been there all summer, might do it over winter again. :)

If you like something you can ask for the recipe. I like it.

I bought some food today I've not bought for 25+ years... a pint of milk and some (Mr T Everyday) Weetabix. Had 2 for tea.

Did some shopping and picked up a "bunch of random stuff that you often see in recipes and haven't got". eg butter, garlic powder, onion powder. And some stocking up: couple of tins of cheap chicken meatlballs in tomato sauce (Lidl) and a jar of Mr T's petit pois and carrots. Also got a bag of spuds.

Also got some of that crumble mix as it was mentioned here recently, some custard powder, instant batter mix (at 15p it's cheaper than buying milk to make it from scratch as you just add water and an egg). Had to buy more sultanas (Mr T's Everyday) as I bought some 2 weeks ago and ate the lot.... they were intended for "random baking/spotted cick making" in case the urge takes over to make something that needs sultanas. And some treats..... Lidl's peanut/caramel bars.

Got some Mr T Everyday crumpets; love crumpets.... and a longlife loaf that'll last the next 10 days for toast.

All in, probably don't need to go out shopping for 2 weeks now. I've enough food there for a month, but there's bound to be one item I need to go out for .... or maybe not.

I've lost about a stone recently; I weighed myself when I went away and was surprised to see I was a stone less than usual/I thought. Those scales are "spot on" as the owner's a weight-freak and if they weren't 100% right they'd go in the bin.
