Could you build (/bear having) a granny annexe at yours...now that you are almost empty nesters?!
No.

If you had a folding bike or a bike safe overnight parking at your local station you could probably use a combination of cycling/taxis/walking (when the bike was in the wrong place and it wasn't raining) and over the year it wouldn't be too cost prohibitive?I think....0 -
Think we need to part company with our IFA. Shame, relationship lasted about 15 years, now it appears he is overcharging us. OH not happy, I feel sad and it will be awkward as he lives nearby. Plus the hassle of finding another one.

First point of call might well be renegotiating after research on other local options and presentation of what you could get elsewhere.
Someone who knows you well has, IMO, some worth in their ability to make better tailored recommendations rather than off paper ones. But not to twice or four times value.0 -
NO, because she is not old she says. Though she would like a flat with a 24 hour porter, but I can't find one that meets the other criteria.0

I've always thought a skateboard to be suitable local transport for some people. Where I used to live most younger locals (younger = up to age 30-35) would use a skateboard to get to/from work and around town quickly.... even wearing a suit.
Personally, I'd last 2 minutes tops.0 -

It would be cheaper in London/ se. But we are not in London/ se and don't have the benefits of lots of competing contractors.
Why don't you stick a really big gas boiler in, and just forget all the energy saving for now? Then install your ground source heating when properly ready.
Something like this? http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/vaillant-ecotec-65kw-commercial-boiler/
That's 65kw - costs £2.5k to buy + say £1-2k to install to existing pipework. You'd be toasty warm.
Or you are not on mains gas? So you need a LPG tank and boiler? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Are you quite sure that he's charging you more now? He may be getting exactly the same as before, but it's more visible now. http://www.out-law.com/page-10960No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
