'my parents' had to remove the horse stall (and manure) from the main wing of their barn although it did have a stable lads accommodation in the other wing so wasn't totally uninhabitable. The 'copper house' we stay in was pretty much a stone built garden shed.

Show homes? They are normally kitted out and in the centre of the development as well.

Yes but she doesn't want a big development.

She also likes busy high streets, but she also wants smart and smart usually means in quiet roads.

I have to find a home near me for my mother to buy. I try to tell her to rent first, but she considers that moving twice.

She has a long list of requirements, which are inflexible and contradictory (in terms of what builders build) and she would like to move now, immediately. Sighs!

The property that is most likely to fit the bill is new build, but any new builds are not likely to be ready immediately.
When we had to look at mum's accommodation and failing abilities, it was tough. I wanted to rent, she'd not have cared, but there wasn't anywhere suitable (late 80s) as I didn't want her in a random flat, but in a sheltered type of place. Sheltered types were for sale, but not many on at the time. I could have written out a cheque to buy her one, then sold her house .... but we were scared that she'd not take to it at all (living alone for the first time ever) and were hesitant to end up with 2 properties if she had to be moved on.

In the end, her failure to thrive resulted in a speedy despatch to a locked-in unit, so we never had to try to establish her in an old folks' flat with communal living room type of place.

Yours is younger, so probably more able to adapt and change.

They don't make it easy do they ... parents.

Guessing she won't move into a development of old people flats?
  • OH cycles in all weathers, including snow and rain. If it's raining he puts a waterproof coat and trousers set on, and stays dry

Not sure how much your OH sweats, but I wouldn't stay dry underneath for very long! Also by the time you finished faffing with putting waterproofs on and taking them off at the other end you probably wouldn't have saved more than a couple of minutes. Plus you have to carry them around with you every single day in case you get caught out on the way home. I need a chauffeur rather than waterproofs, unfortunately my euro millions numbers insist on not coming in.

Not trained the GF well, I always used to pick OH up if it was raining.

NO, because she is not old she says. Though she would like a flat with a 24 hour porter, but I can't find one that meets the other criteria.

As my mother did for my dad, (she worked too). Tbh, don't know many shorter hour working partners in suburbs or further out who don't if partner isn't a cyclist or runner.
