A carpet washer - was thinking of getting someone in to clean carpets, but this will hopefully be more MSE as will be able to use/ lend to family, friends etc (or even sell on ebay) in the future.
I don't use mine as much as I used to:o, but it was an essential when I first moved in. I really noticed the "smells" of the old family. Nothing strong, but it drove me nuts as there wasn't the smell of my old house, nor was there the neutral clean smell of a hotel room.
This meant I cleaned the carpets about 5 times until the smell went. As soon as it was dry I did it over again. It's a wonder I didn't get trench foot.
The Collins DIY manual is excellent too. That was my tip, courtesy of bro. So if you don't like it, you know who to blame..Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

When we got our first place in the early 90s, we drove up the North Circular to the only IKEA branch in the UK, at Wembley. Now there's another closer one in Croydon. Can't figure how we'd have furnished our place without them. Last time we were driving through Belgium on a motorways we found the service areas were too far apart so we pulled in to a IKEA just outside Brussels on the grounds that we could see it clearly from miles away and finding it would be a piece of cake. Plus the food was self-service so didin't have to worry about which language they spoke.
Sorry Zag, but the first UK branch was in Warrington...
I rather like the one in Milton Keynes for shopping now, though North Circ is probably closer. It always seems a lot busier than MK.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I'm sure the DIY manual will be fab - pretty sure I've looked through it in WHS ages ago and it looked good.
I'm not sure how long term the use of a carpet cleaner would be - but the carpets it has been bought in hopeful anticipation of have been in a student let. They look decent enough (no holes), but will definitely need a good clean. Had been thinking of getting someone in to do it, but this will take less organisation and I can do a room at a time etc. Plus as I mentioned, I figure I'll have a carpet cleaner for whenever I or friends/ family want it or it can go on ebay.vivatifosi wrote: »Sorry Zag, but the first UK branch was in Warrington...

Before I left London, the Wembley one was 'my' branch (went past it every day on the tube too), not been to MK Ikea yet, but I'm guessing I'll become quite familiar with it!0 -

I've never even set foot in IKEA! Not through snobbery but because we don't have one that close...We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

You're right! I amended my post the same minute you posted this!
I always assumed the London store was first.
But I don't know what drives decision-making in these international chains.
I remember Glasgow having a free-standing Muji store in the early 90s when they only had an instore section inside Liberty in London IIRC. Don't think they run any full proper stores north of Birmingham any more.
I loved shopping in MK back in the day! The central shopping mall was the perfect place to have one. None of this hollowed-out town centre while everybody shops in the 'burbs! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
me too me too...don't forget :j:j
Hey Viv, I got my copy of 'Makers' delivered today. As this openzone BB is a bit scrappy.....keeps cutting out and sloooow, I may offski to bed in a min and start it.
If I'm around can I please gatecrash too?
Hope you enjoy Makers. I want to hear all about it.
On a different note, a good friend of mine (MA in fine art) is doing a print making course. I'm going to suggest she goes into wallpaper production just in time for your move...Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Wallpaper is such a good product line as, for years. we have had to put with the crud from mainstream places like B+Q or had to pay crazy money for top end....very little inbetween. Good design doesn't have to mean 'break the bank'.
Wall panels are something I want to do in our family home. So, not the commitment of a whole wall of wallpaper, but a large almost wall sized panel than can be changed at whim.
OH is going to make me some and then I can decorate them.
Feeling a London meet up brewing for when LIR can come up.
By Xmas, I should have a demi luxury suburban home (;)).
At the mo we have gigantic pile diggers and machinery in the front and back gardens, a ton of mud mixed with SE London clay and no heating.
Happy to do a 'do' here one day so I can 'show off' as it's all getting really painful now. I have 'stolen' LIR's descrip of 'Wreckstoration' for our house too.....it's very apt.0
