I understand exactly where you are coming from Yorkie - I would feel 10% happier if I didn't see clutter everywhere I went but the process of actually dealing with it defeats me.

Speaking of brambles I meant to post that we had blackberries and ice-cream last Sunday. The relevance being this was the only meal that has even partly come from our garden here ever.
    I think....

LIR I saw the weather this morning and they showed temps getting down to 3 degrees in your neck of the woods - I am worried about your boiler situation :(

3? Gosh, I knew it was going to be cooler, I thought about five.

Thing is, I'm stumped. I've been driving this between. Hospital visits and been told by the boiler companies from this selection round... that we could get in and see systems working in homes of other clients ( this is prerequisite for us this time and the sticking point...so perhaps we need to rethink) but it wouldn't be till later in summer. (For various reasons) so we were fairly content this was ok, if frustrated it wasn't sooner. Now it seems its falling down again.

Really not sure what to do. :(.

Sorry but why is this thread here in the debate house prices section? It's a nice thread but shouldn't this be in the general discussion section or something?

You are welcome to join in. You just need to bare your soul a little.

    Everybody here:

    a) Lives in Herts or Outer Herts. (Outer Herts comprises the rest of the universe outside Hertfordshire proper, which is the hub of the universe.)

    b) Likes mushrooms. Or they don't.

As for me: I live in N London, which is quite close to the hub of the universe. And I like mushrooms. (Not my favourite food, but I can cope with them.)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I think micheals is speaking sense, worth listening to. LiR do you really think that your health is robust enough for you to be at best a pioneer, at worst a guinea pig for less tested heating technology again this year?

If there is not an obvious reputable bunch of suppliers for wood pellets it may be worth while looking at other fuel boilers. Life is full of compromises.

We moved form a sold fuel burner to oil because I just could not face another winter of hard work when I was no longer as fit as I wanted. Oil is expensive/feels less green but the technology is well tried and tested so you know it works, the tank is 'hidden' behind a hurdle (no planning required), we keep threatening to plant a hedge.

We HAD an oil tank but planners (well, listed building officer with planners) required its removal as part of our scope of works...part of the agree ment made with them for the scale of the development in our ore planning, and it didn't feel like a compromise because it was what we wanted...it was something that looked like a concession but was not from our stand point IYSWIM.

Honestly, I know it sounds like I'm just being stubborn, (and we are considering a temporary oil or gas instalment now and being a bit brazen over the issue with planners) but its NOT a long term solution here, and its a lot of money for a short term one.

Its really frustrating because ultimately I will probably have to make the call on this not anyone else, and there is no 'right' answer anymore that I can see.

Its been a profoundly depressing afternoon at the Wreckstoration. I have Been extraordinarily grumpy and badly behaved, and tried to start a row. DH was wonderful.

He always comes up smelling of roses.

Also today spoke to a sort of but not really client (confusing relationship) who told me her son who was iffy had indeed gone back to school to do
His a levels. I was delighted, he's got great gcse's in sciences. Oh no, she said, he's decided not to do sciences, he's doing three 'new' subjects...sort of fluffy ones iykwim. A kid, great at sciences, not great at much else, and doing something else not that well regarded by universities or employers. I asked why and she said the school advised him they were 'easier a levels ' and made a really good timetable. I find both reasons depressing.

Combined with cold fear, building stress ( this year has been way more stressful than last year) and other stuff I feel really punchy today.

I might even post ....out there ...on the board...today.....

LIR, I feel so sorry for you that you can't get a good argument at home when you need one. :)

On the other your OH does sound pretty wonderful, so I guess you have to take the rough with the smooth.

    :rotfl::T

    Exactly right.

(I know have to go and unbag all my stuff that I chucked into bin bags on my rant about de cluttering and getting rid of 'my' stuff so there would be more room for resident parents 'plastic cr4p' and dh's unpacked boxes

    :o:o

I have less stuff that's 'mine' rather than 'ours' than I realised donwn stairs. I don't know how I feel about that. Crowded out mainly.

There are probably more girls and less geeks doing the 'new' subjects than science as well.....
