I'm not sure this distinction is always helpful.
At least half of science is witchcraft. I'm pretty convinced.0 -
If any NP ,like men in uniform I have some to spare tonight.
We also have some rotating blue lights illuminating the night sky.
The fire brigade are currently digging a firebreak through last weekends bonfire so that we do not burn down next doors stables.
I am in charge of tea making.
Back soon.
Ooh Spirit. How 'exciting'! Hope it's all under control and everyone is safe. (Including those uniformed men)

Well, the email I BCC'd myself on has just arrived in my inbox.
I have the dregs of a box of wine drained into a glass.
And a whole 5 minutes to spare.
Well done Nikkster!:jAt least half of science is witchcraft. I'm pretty convinced.
I thought the other half was as well!
Is there anything left?;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Niiki you are a star...should that be Dr Nikki?
I would love to read the management summary or whatever it is called in a thesis so I could 'understand' what has taken up the last x years of your life...and because a bit like Zag but on a much lower level almost any new information fascinates me.I think....0 -

You haven't seen the state of some of it!
It occurred to me that I've not really looked through a 'general discussion' in a thesis before (I went for more specific end of chapter ones), so I think it was probably quite a lot off piste... Nevermind. Whether anyone ever reads that far through it remains to be seen.
I don't really mind (the thought of a viva (not our viva) is terrifying. I'd been blocking it out until people started mentioning the 'v' word this week - the 't' word was bad enough)

I honestly don't think I'll get to be a Dr - my poor supervisor has every right not to let me submit really. (and whilst about half of it is probably ok, the rest I genuinely don't think is, esp what I've written in the past hour or so ).
I might go for plan b - buy a doctorate over the net. I bet no-one would ever check
Once I know what's going on or not with it, I'll happily send you the abstract (which I guess is the equivalent of a management summary.0 -

Sometimes things don't translate, glad nikkster recommends, that suggests this has. Maybe I'll suggest DH get some stuff from there for supper for himself. He keeps saying he doesn't want to be disappointed:D
Right - back to real life again
There is a Princi in Soho (Wardour St I think) - that's the one my Italian friend took me too (goes off to find link...)
http://www.princi.com/
It was lovely - and full of Italians. I felt quite outnumbered! (Though I've been asked more times than I can remember if I'm Italian, which I'm not at all as far as I know)0 -
I have a MSci (Hons) and an MSc, both of which I had to earn. I really don't understand the bonus MA thing.
I'm strugging to keep up, so please correct any of my howlers
IIRC
MScis in the UK are new first (undergaduate) degrees (honours level) with an extra years tuition. MScs are postgraduate degrees.
The Oxbridge unis are "mediaeval" (in a neutral sense) and have their own degree awarding rules and offer a BA after I think 3 years, but you can covert that to an MA by applying and paying for an upgrade some years later without extra study.
The Scottish Ancient universities just gave MAs as undergaduate degrees in arts and humanities, but BScs in Sciences. Presumably as an incentive to get people to study arts and humanities as science is a pretty big thing north of the Tweed. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Got a BA, starting my MSc on the 16th
Could be a great opportunity, could be a huge waste of money. Kind of excited to find out.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0
