I would hope this wouldn't lead to a physical attack, just googled and perhaps my skills of research aren't up to anything however couldn't find a mention of this at all. I just thought it was an odd thing to say to a young person that they might get physically attacked if they view a house without a mortgage. And even odder, if they end up being attacked, keep quiet and don't tell the police as it's not honorable. That is not good advice and I would hope the OP would ignore that, they sound like a very sensible person so I'm sure they would.
Anyway.... I'll leave it there and not comment over on this.

More precisely, because you possibly wasted an afternoon of someone's time, knowing full well you would not be in a position to buy for 9 months..
I don't think this is a waste of time. A house they view could, could be still up for sale when they do secure a mortage and if they've viewed and are really happy with they can move quickly with surveys. I think all viewings, in a tough market like this, are to be welcomed.
You never know, a friend or relation of the OP could secure a mortgage in the near future, OP could mention to them about a fab house they saw, the new person goes to view and bish bash bosh job done.0 -

For everyone else, what is being discussed is very different from 'not having a mortgage' - plenty of people view without a mortgage, I have done this - but I have always had a more than reasonable prospect and have been in a position to make an offer which I could expect to uphold within a normal purchase time scaleYou might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -

Honest answer is we were able to put an offer in on some of them, definitely not on some of the dearer ones but we were trying to establish what we wanted / needed from the house. If we had wanted to go for the dearer properties we would have had to taken a completely different approach (we would have had to stop looking for a while whilst we sorted out other matters) but we didn't know what we really wanted until we started looking.
So did we waste peoples time, in my view no, in theirs possibly but the same could be said for the ones that we viewed and didn't like - you don't know until you have seen the places.0 -
Has no one noticed that between now & getting the MIP there's only 4 months?
I'm not talking about a year here, it's literally 4 months earlier than others would start looking.

Valhaller may be stating the case a bit strongly, but it is indeed the case that viewers and fake viewers alike will not know the reasoning and emotions behind someone deciding to put their house up for sale and the vendor may well be feeling a bit emotional about the whole thing.
Now sitting here remembering the reasons I got told for houses I looked at being for sale. It included:
- a very unwilling sale because of an employer transferring their job elsewhere in the country
- a death
- a serious illness that made that location impractical to continue living in (though one of the couple concerned clearly absolutely loved her home and I could see why)
So emotions will come into it for many sellers. We're not all sitting there dispassionately thinking "Ho hum...time for next step up the ladder". Me..I'm going up the ladder and moving to an area I will prefer BUT I do have "Why the (text removed by MSE Forum Team) should I have to move from my own area of the country? It ain't right...." in as one of my emotions about this personally and I do resent it being too dear for me to buy "next house" here and that my own area has got worse. So...yep...there is a very good chance that fake viewers might be treading on someone's toes and be at risk of at least the downright caustic comment they would get from me if I discovered I'd been played for a fool by them.
I was heartened to read OP's post in this thread promising not to go and view until she is financially ready to...but didn't believe it at the time. Just as well....as that promise soon evaporated into thin air....:cool:0 -

That all makes sense and is really helpful.
I'm aware I won't know what I want until I see it (and for what I don't want!). If I was a seller I'd happily show people my home & be open to a longer relationship. Would make no odds to me because if some one came & made an offer before they did I'd take it, if not then I've got a back-up plan. Guess that's just the fundraiser in me thinking about longtem investment.0 -
Plainly I am wrong then. For you and NewbuyerNE, there is aboslutely no risk of being thumped if you view a house now
Of course there is a risk, I am more concerned to be honest at someone being attacked but being told to do the honorable thing and not tell the police. I think that is what most frightens me about the advice.0 -
OP , I have not been upset by anyone ,I am not a seller I am a buyer ,
I was merely trying to tell you that if you go to view houses you are not yet ready to buy it could be you that could end up being upset,
I don't understand why you found my post so upsetting its only saying what others have said, and I did say "please don't view until you are ready "
it takes all kinds I suppose and you are entitled to do as you wish, hope it works out for you0
