I would just concentrate on getting well physically. Group strep infections are absolutely horrid - I had one on holiday and felt like the living dead. Put all thoughts to the back of your mind and look after yourself and hopefully you will feel miles better in 24 hours x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Sorry to hear you are feeling under the weather Bailey :grouphug:

A Strep B is a very nasty infection and with the abx you will be feeling very rough. I too was a single Mum, I say was, my children are adult now and have flown the nest. My parents died when the children were young so didn't have their support when I was separated/divorced.

Now I am on my own but enjoying my life and my children are very good at keeping in touch. As we go through life our circumstances inevitably change and sometimes it is hard to adapt. Keep enjoying your children and remember that you will feel better soon. As others have said it is very important to take time out for yourself. As a Mum we are always at the beck and call of others and that is why it is important to have some time of your own to look forward to and retain your own identity.

Hope you feel better soon and 'live for the day'. :)
  • Wise words from everybody!!

I have been googling strep b infections but most of what I find relates to pregnancy and newborns and not how I have been feeling. Maybe its for the best - googling and ailments isn't always the best combination.

Thanks Marisco, i know you understand as a single parent yourself. My parents are away at the moment and my mum has been under the weather herself, so i haven't liked to ask to much more. Mum is having the children for a day next week whilst I work, so again I don't like to ask her to have extra unless she offers.

I have just started the anti b's, so maybe in a few days i'll be feeling better, but then again my stomach might not be. Got to take 8 a day, quite strong ones too apparently. I'll make sure I double up my probiotics too.

Feeling a bit better now with the distraction of the children, one is making a model robot from recycling bits she has collected during the week, the other is making lego models in the garden.

I know how you feel! I've had days like that,I'm a single parent to a severe autistic,no help due to service pick-up,isolated and some days just wake up feeling poo and thinking I'm constantly stuck at the same point in life while others are constantly moving around!

I had a staph infection a few weeks ago and had to take 8 antibiotics a day too,4000mg a day and tbh that made me feel run down and off.

    Hope you pick up soon.

  • Sorry to hear that shegirl, both about your situation as a parent and the strep B. I know the antibiotics will make me feel crap but this infection is draining me now too. I worry that ill struggle even more trying to work as next week I am busy and my job is physical.

I have a friend is also a single parent to an autistic boy. She finds is hard and draining especially as he wakes at 5.30 nearly every day.

Least we know we aren't alone.

I didn't know anything about strep b until recently. I wish I went to the doctors before waiting 5 weeks. Although to be fair I did go after 2 weeks of sore throat and knackeredness as I thought it might be tonsilitus. The doc confirmed a sore throat, but said it was probably viral and would clear in a few more days. I didnt want to feel like a hypochrondriac, so I left it longer thinking it would resolve itself.
  • I've been feeling out of sorts for the last few days too, tired, overwhelmed etc, infact all the things you mentioned above, so I can totally empathise with you, and just wanted to send you a big virtual hug! We all have our off days/weeks, and coupled with not feeling too good either, things can easily get on top of you, but I'm sure you'll soon be back to feeling much better soon! :)
  • Thank you and you too. Life sends its curveballs eh?

Anyway think i'd best be off to bed now, didn't realise the time.

    Night all.

Some days we have to congratulate ourselves for simply turning up :) It would be so much easier to stay in bed / hide in the shed / take the first flight to anywhere. Take some rest and relaxation as it will help you mend more quickly. Hope that you feel back in good spirits very soon.

Just as an aside, after your lie in you didn't have a sugary breakfast did you? I know having a load of sugar first thing in the morning really does leave me feeling pretty down.

Anyway just a thought, otherwise what everyone else has said is great :)

No I didn't, just my usual branflakes with a cuppa! No sugar in sight. Thanks for the thought though.
