    Eighth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Asda's red label 65p-ish coke is really nice, we only have a bottle every week or so, but it's good.

We pay proper money for bread, but everything else is up for debate. I buy the cheapest option for a lot of things, Green and White / Blue and White label for things like mayo, tomato sauce, salad creme, kidney beans, squash, orange juice, beans, but I buy the next level own brand for cereal, pizza, etc coffee (but only Sainsburys, their own coffee "rich roast" is really good).

    Meat and beer.

Though with meat - I get the 3 for £10 - mainly the extra lean mince that Sainsburys do at 4.5% fat and the lean is 11-12% fat.

Beer - will only buy certain brands if its on offer. Parents are more than willing to keep my stockpile providing they don't help themselves.

    Washing up liquid.

I once bought a supermarket's economy one when I was a student - cost me 12p in 2002. Never again - I had to squeeze a third of a bottle to clean my dishes.

I wait until there is a decent offer on Fairy WUL (2 for £2)

Agree that you can buy Fairy w/up liquid on really good offers but often peculiar 'flavours'. I'm happy with Aldi's Magnum.

home Bargains do cheap toilet roll which is like a premium brand, think it's 36 rolls for £3.99

Is that right? 36 rolls for 3.99?

I've been buying Nikki at Farmfoods and that's two packs of nine each for £4.00. So home bargains would be half that price? I don't go to HB often as a bit of a trek, but would be worth going and having a look for that. Esther x

I think it should be 18 rolls for £3.99.

Happy to pay serious money for coffee, proper bread and cheese. Cheese has to be either extra mature farmhouse cheddar, blue stilton or fancy, shmancy French :)

I buy really really good Italian whole wheat pasta, whole bean coffee, organic non-homogenised milk, organic free range eggs and meat, organic eating cheddar (direct from farm), Heinz baked beans, Kelly's icecream and wafer icecream cones.

This thread fascinated me as I realised how much I've changed since coming on mse.

Of the items posted so far the only things I don't compromise on are bread (Seed Sensations Wholemeal or Burgen), coffee (always buy Nescafe but always on offer) and toothpaste (but always a brand like Colgate I can get in the £ shop).

Things I've substituted with great success:
    • orange juice (Aldi 65p a litre)
    • toilet roll (Nikki from Farmfoods 18 rolls for £4)
    • fish fingers (generally Aldi)
    • soup (now always make my own)
    • washing powder (Asda SP but about to try Aldi)
    • dishwasher tabs (Aldi or Lidl are great)
    • mouthwash (Aldi)
    • tea (gave up on Yorkshire and buy Sainsbury's Red Label)

Have you tried the aldi white seeded batch loaf, I converted my seed sensations husband to this without complaint.
