Which groceries do you spend more on?

Which grocery items do you think just aren't worth buying cheap versions of? I buy better quality bread, orange juice and toilet paper (cheap toilet paper is definitely a false economy ...)

Milk for my son he has organic (I buy the cheaper normal stuff for myself). Bread hovis, cheap stuff doesn't last. Washing powder (but always get whats on offer as long as its a brand name) . Fairy washing up liquid (again when on offer). Tea.

I don't know if should admit this but I buy cheap toliet paper  springforce (via Tesco) 9 rolls 1.99 its not like the valve stuff for the price its very good.

home Bargains do cheap toilet roll which is like a premium brand, think it's 18 rolls for £3.49?

I don't compromise on Hovis bread but Aldi do it for 79p, cheaper than some of their own brand!!

OH like Kelloggs crunchy nut so we look out for them on offer.

This thread fascinated me as I realised how much I've changed since coming on mse.

Of the items posted so far the only things I don't compromise on are bread (Seed Sensations Wholemeal or Burgen), coffee (always buy Nescafe but always on offer) and toothpaste (but always a brand like Colgate I can get in the £ shop).

Things I've substituted with great success:
    • orange juice (Aldi 65p a litre)
    • toilet roll (Nikki from Farmfoods 18 rolls for £4)
    • fish fingers (generally Aldi)
    • soup (now always make my own)
    • washing powder (Asda SP but about to try Aldi)
    • dishwasher tabs (Aldi or Lidl are great)
    • mouthwash (Aldi)
    • tea (gave up on Yorkshire and buy Sainsbury's Red Label)

Toothpaste as I have to use Sensodyne.

Coffee, I rarely drink it so may as well have a decent cuppa when I do!

Orange juice if its for drinking not mixing as the concentrated stuff gives me a bad tummy.

Nicky loo roll (cheaper than the big brands but fab quality).

Pepsi Max (I rarely drink cola, but anything cheaper tastes vile).

Fairy washing up liquid, as I don't have a dish washer & cheap stuff is crap! That said I always buy it on offer.

Either Oust or Nutradol odour neutraliser I don't use any other kinds of "air fresheners" and only keep it in the bathroom!

Surf because I love the smell (though if I were really skint and it wasn't on offer I would buy the cheap stuff)!

Herbal Essences Shampoo, anything else is false economy for my hair, try to stock up when boots have it on offer.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.
  • When it comes to fresh veg I won't compromise on potatoes - it must be Sainsbury TTD Vivaldi or Asda Extra Special Marabel. And tomatoes must be Pomodorino. Other than that am usually happy with Aldi fresh produce.
