Help please!!! transferred £300 into the wrong account.

Hi all,

Am hoping someone would look at this and give me some advise pls.

I did an online transfer of £300 from my Santander account to a Lloyds bank acct yesterday and just found out that I had mistyped 585 as 858 in the acct number, the sort code and acct name were correct but the acct number was wrong and the money is now gone.

I contacted my bank who said to contact Lloyds. I have contacted Lloyds and they said that for data protection reasons, they cannot help me and that I should go to my bank.

Called Santander (my bank) again and was again told that they cannot help.:cry::cry:

What do I do now??

Thanks

Put all the details in writing to Lloyds saying you typed the account number wrong and it should have been X instead of Y Tell them the details of when it was sent and from what account.

Hopefully it's in a suspense account. Otherwise Lloyds are going to have to try to reclaim it for the intended party from the other persons bank account.

Always advisable to send a pound to the bank first and make sure it has arrived before sending larger amounts if you can.

Nothing. Santander could help if they wanted to, but they don't. They don't have to.

Try to get your own back on Santander. Cause them as much expense and inconvenience as possible and then switch banks.

check here first to see if the account is valid ,it is possible that it is not a valid combo and Santander take a few days to reverse

I'd write a letter to the account holder, and ask Santander to send it to LTSB (with a covering letter from themselves) who can then pass it on to the account holder.

Hopefully they won't be the type of person we see on here from time to time asking "can I keep it?"!

Tell Lloyds that you don't want them to release any data to you, you just want them to contact the recipient and to inform them that you would like the money back.

    Santander website advice is
What if I have made a payment to the wrong account?

If you made a payment to an incorrect destination account, in the first instance please check if the payment has been returned to your account. If it has then you can resend your payment to the correct account.

If the money has not been returned then you should attempt to contact the bank that you made the payment to. If you need any further guidance, then please contact our telephone banking centre on 0845 972 4724 or call into a branch.

You should contact the beneficiary to obtain the correct destination account details before resending any funds.

The following article indicates the bank should take reasonable steps to get the money back for you where possible

    Hi all,

Thank you very much for your helpful advises:beer:.
Below is the letter I want to send to the Bank manager at Woolwich, which is the branch both accounts are held tomorrow by recorded delivery. What do you guys think??

    ATTN: (Branch Manager (Name))

    (Branch name & address here)

    Dear Sir/Ma'am,

This letter is to inform you that I did an online transfer of £300 from my Santander account ( ******)to a Lloyds bank account *** and sort code ***, yesterday and just found out today that I had sent it to the wrong account. The transfer was meant for account number **** sort code ****.

The name and sort code of the account is correct but I entered the account number wrongly, i.e **858*** instead of **585**

I would therefore be very grateful if you can look into this for me. I don't want you to release any data to me, but want you to contact the recipient and to inform him/her that I would like the money back

Thank you for your consideration and I hope that I will be hearing from you soon concerning this matter.

    Sincerely,
    (********)
