The thing is it doesn't look likely to just be a simple typo though, since it says 23 mph as well as 700 rpm. So I'm half expecting to find some 'technical' person at Skoda really did mean this, but it is so out of sync with what is normally suggested it's certainly worth questioning. And I'm genuinely surprised if Skoda staff haven't before.0

Nobody got back this afternoon, but I'll chase up if I don't hear anything.
Couple of extra points, if you look at the web addresses for those documents, you'll see that the 2,000rpm/40mph has a v2 in it, and the 700rpm/23mph has a v7 in it.
Pure speculation, but that suggests to me that there may have been 7 versions (or more?) of the DPF document. But could of course be nothing more than a coincidence.
Also when discussing with Skoda Bod, I did explain that I was just being overly careful. As anotherbaldrick has confirmed, through experience, 2,000rpm and 40mph does not seem 'tricky' or unreasonable. It's just that 700rpm is 'dead easy' and would be extremely re-assuring for my father to know.
I also mentioned on the phone, that if the 700rpm is correct, then why aren't they shouting this from the roof tops?

That would seem to fit perfectly with the one document I found, and the telephone advice today:-
"Drive continuously for about 10-15 minutes at a speed of at least 40 mph in fourth or fifth gear (automatic gearboxes select Sport mode), to maintain an engine speed no less than 2,000 rpm."

Hiya. Spoken to Skoda again, a couple of times. At first, after checking with their technical team, they said the 2,000rpm instructions were correct, but then they found my e-mail with the 700rpm link, and went back to the tech team.
Just come back to me again, very helpful, but a little bemused. They think the 700rpm instructions may be the very bottom of a regeneration, but would recommend the 2,000rpm instructions. A good point they made was that 700rpm @ 23mph would be very difficult to achieve even in 5th gear, so it's more of a theoretical point than an actual recommendation.
Sorry if this sounds a bit confusing, I think we were all pretty confused by the end. I wouldn't be surprised if the v7 document disappears, or gets additional clarification.
So, long story short (too late!), I'm off (armed with the v2 2,000rpm printout) to tell my father that whilst 700rpm may work, he should only consider getting the car based on occasional, continuous 15min 2,000rpm driving.
But, will also advise that thanks to several posters and a PM, these engines don't seem to be causing problems, and DPF issues shouldn't be a concern, as long as he doesn't only do stop & go driving.
Many thanks to all that replied.

Hi. Martin.
I would go along with that, it's what I have deduced as a CR diesel owner and OF to boot.
Regarding the 700 rpm bit I think we could be specific and state unequivocally that it is total b&lls, it is barely tick over speed. Shows they have not read their own bumpf (perhaps it should have read 1700 rpm)You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
