Whether or not the problem with the Kia was DPF related, surely it is still a good idea to consider the DPF related issues on any future diesel purchase?0 -

Indeed. And further to that, actually driving @700 rpm would probably be bad for the car (dmf in particular). Unless these engines rev incredibly low, which I doubt.0 -

What issues, there are none relevant. I am 80 do not drive on motorways, but otherwise drive in a normal manner with the occasional recreational jaunt down to the coast. The DPF does not even make its presence known, it does it's job totally without interfering with my reverie. To reiterate my engine is the same as in the Skoda under considerationYou scullion! Doing any driving at 700 rpm will destroy the DMF. This engine needs to be kept above 1100 unless decelerating. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -

What sort of driving are we talking, in terms of distance and frequency?0 -

Fairly regular in my habits, down the club twice a week less than a mile each way, supermarket and back 5 miles each way once a week , into town 12 miles and back twice a week, visit friends 20 miles away once a week. recreational drive about 100miles every other week. Allowing for abnormals about 8-10 K per yearYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0 -

Good to know they might now have made DPFs less of a hassle than the earlier ones.

Hiya Ultrasonic. Just an update.
I e-mailed Skoda and got a call back, which I missed, so rang back. I explained the 700rpm bit, and was told that was wrong. The bod I spoke to was very helpful and read out a 2,000rpm / 40mph statement very similar to the one in my OP, but not word for word.
I explained about the 'other document' my father was given, and supplied the link for him to see himself. He said he would look it up and speak to a technical advisor, but was shocked at such a low rpm (he's not the only one!).
So I'm waiting on a call back, and will update as and when.anotherbaldrick wrote: »Fairly regular in my habits, down the club twice a week less than a mile each way, supermarket and back 5 miles each way once a week , into town 12 miles and back twice a week, visit friends 20 miles away once a week. recreational drive about 100miles every other week. Thanks, that's very similar to my father's routine, with recreational drive replaced by trips to antique auctions that will involve dual carriageway/motorway. He probably does 6k to 8k per year. Quite reassuring to know.
Mart.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

The VW manual says drive in 4th gear at a speed of 44mph or above for 15 minutes, at a guess, and it is only a guess I would think that is about 1800-2000 rpmYou scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
