2 years is odd. my friend terminated his contract 1 year ago (about feb 2006) and suddenly received his bill on march 2007 from debt agency saying that he owe 3s for 4.83 pounds :rotfl: . He thought this could be mistake and after week the price has hike up to 10 pounds. That sounds stupid and after numerous call they admitted this could be their computer system fault for canceling the direct debit without taking the final bill charge. However he still need to pay for the 4.83 pounds.

You have every right to seek an explanation as to how these 'costs' have arisen.

I really think that a court would take a dim view of their handling of these especially if they are so unprofessional at managing their affairs.

keep records of conversations etc with them the present them to court if it should go that far.

But in any case I would send a signed for letter saying that you consider the account was settled in full and they have 2 weeks to send you evidence to the contrary, otherwise you will consider the matter closed, and further correspondance after this date will be cosidered as harrasment and reported to OFCOM.

If you put this in writing to the righ people it never fails to work. In addition it's usually a good idea to Invoice them for your time to them at £30 per hour for having to deal with their pointless correspondance.

    It focuses people's minds

The TV Licencing people dared to waste my time once and I invoiced them for time and petrol involved in having to run around after their mistake (long story) - and I received payment in full.

PC World kept me waiting in all day to pick up a faulty laptop but had forgotten to arrange a courier to pick it up. I wrote to the MD of PC World asking for a days earnings. I received the cheque a week later.

My wife wants to change her surname - I wonder why??? :rotfl:

    Hi there,
I have also just had the same type of letter after closing my account 2 years ago they now say i owe £166.69!!! I phoned them to say the account was cleared but was told they had a system problem in 2004/5 and that it wasn't invoicing correctly - that would be my problem why? I asked for an address to send a letter of complaint to but was told there was no address or CEO or MD or customer service (ok-i asked for all of this but i was annoyed!) and that if i didn't pay i would be blacklisted and that the debt would be passed to a collection agency.
I have registered a complaint with Ofcom who said also to complain to Otello -01925 430049. Ofcom said i need to write to them explaining that i paid in full at the time of request and ask that they write off the debt.
I have had absolutely no contact from them since 2005 and now this bolt!
However, i would love to know the legal standing on this- are they able to ask for monies after two years? Martin please investigate for us!!!!

They also have their number 08454 04 05 06. In the absence of any advice here you may be able to get some from there. I have found them very helpful in the past
