Hi
We flew with Delta airlines from Dublin to Atlanta, with a connecting flight to Orlando. Our flight was delayed out of Dublin by 8 and half hours.:(
They came round with drinks, crisps and offered us vouchers for airport in Atlanta when we did arrive, some of the flight were put up in hotel and had to wait till morning for flight to Orlando.
We were put on the next flight out of Atlanta to Orlando the night we arrived.
Just wondering if we should claim for a delay over 8 hours. Thomas cook said it had to be over 12 hours to claim from our insurance!!

Not sure why you are claiming from Thomas Cook, your claim would be from Delta for EU compensation (separate to travel insurance) there is a thread for US airlines, start with the FAQs on there0

I'm not claiming from Thomas Cook, our holiday and insurance was booked through them, so was just checking how many hours delayed you had to be to claim from insurance.
Thanks for your reply.0 -

Well that depends on your insurance policy - you'll need to read the small print. But you can claim from the airline regardless for compensation under Reg 261/04.0 -
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm new to this.
To claim from the airline do I need to send a separate letter for each family member or can I just send one letter and name everyone on it.
Thanks0 -

Hi , Madonna, you must have been on the same flight as us on Sat 29th June. I have emailed Delta the day we arrived home, using the template on this site. They sent an automated email saying we would have a reply within 10 days. However this is day 20 and I'm still waiting. Unsure of what the next step is though, either a follow up email or a phone call? Best of luck & keep us informed of your progress.0

Hi robin1979,
We were on the Flight on Wednesday 26th June from Dublin, which was delayed 8 hours.
Not sure of the process, but I'm sending of the first letter to Delta for compensation.
Will keep you posted of how I get on....:)0 -
I was on the 29th flight. Got into MCO after midnight. Claim sent to Delta in writing and got a letter a few days ago saying they received the letter and a full reply would follow shortly. Will let you know how I get on.0

Hi dmurray0, do keep me updated. We had to stay overnight in Atlanta on the 29th, which was not organised well at all & up at 4am again the next morning for our flight into MCO! This is day 26 since our 1st email was sent + still only have received automated reply back!0
