I really want a steam cleaner! I've not heard fabulous things about the 9 in 1 one though. Do a bit more research I reckon. But steam cleaners are deffo the way to go.

I used to have a Steam Shark about 15 years ago, slowly various bits of it broke, and I replaced it with the 9 in 1.

For floors it is brilliant, I've not tried it on the carpets yet though, but it comes with a carpet slider rather than attachment, so that's one less thing to break :). I find using it as a hand held a little unwieldy after the old Steam Shark, but it still does a brilliant job of cleaning tiles and our shower cubicle, it brings it up as new. I don't use the squeegee, I just use the steam and then wipe clean/dry with a microfibre cloth.

You do have to use distilled water in it, but it does heat up very quickly. I'm happy with it overall though.

Get it from Lakeland and send it back if you don't get on with it?
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I have a hand held one and its good for spot carpet cleaning, benches, floors and getting creases out of curtains. Rubbish on ovens though, the ones on the adverts must be grease etc they have just added!

I've also got one that look likes a carpet sweeper shape but thats not too good, waste of money and I've borrowed a VAX one for carpets but not that impressed.

Basically I think you'll get one, love it while its a novelty then it will be resigned to a cupboard for ever more.

The Morphy Richards 9 in 1 steam cleaner.

Looks great but am not sure I believe all the hype.

Has anyone got one? Are they as good as they make out?

Can't find anything about it on MSE, is it still on offer?

    Is it good for windows?

You can get it on amazon for £65.

I had a polti and paid a fortune for it. It broke twice and well, I suspect that when they are cleaning ovens on TV vids, the ovens are covered with gravy browning, not actual baked in food stuffs. They do help when cleaning ovens but still expect to use elbow grease.

This particular model has had remarks made on the relative unwieldiness (weight, size) of the hand held steamer. I'd bear this in mind. I have a mop steamer and a canister steamer - like a polti but cheaper lol. Canister steamer can be placed on the floor and has a steam tube to enable you to get close up to things u want to clean without lugging a great water container around.. Both purchased cheaply on amazon and outlasting my polti already.

I do clean windows, wipe them with a drying up cloth or towel as I steam and your windows always sparkle and get done in double quick time. Same for tiles.

Shower doors need vinegar dabbed on withwhat I call a 'scubby pad' (plastic thing), left for a couple of minutes then u can steam and have gotten rid of all hard water marks.

I have found steam machines/mops are very good for freshening up a rug but really u do need to use a carpet cleaner on a really dirty carpet.

I've been thinking about one for a while, since I decided to buy ds a parrot which means we can't have chemical fumes in the house.

I'm not sure if they are really worth the money though.

I have used a steam carpet cleaner before that was pretty useless.

At the moment, apart from Method cleaning products which are meant to be parrot safe,I'm using white vinegar with water for Windows, carpets (external fish tank filter leaked and pumped 180 litres of water out onto dining room laminate which ran off to living room carpet!!!!!Dried it out and the vinegar removed all water stains and has also removed a puddle of black biro ink!),tiles etc. It's cheap and does a brilliant job.

More work than just gliding a steam cleaner over though, which I think is their main appeal-less elbow grease!

I have one-the 9in1 which I got on offer recently at tesco online for 59.99(also found a £10 off voucher online making it 49.99). It is great on the floors. Haven't quite mastered defrosting the freezer yet, but great for bathroom.

They are fantastic for bathrooms. I'm not a fan of harsh chemicals in the bath so it's perfect for that and it brings up the shower beautifully. Apparently you can use them on wood floors but I haven't dared try it on the oak.
