Completely agree...they remind me of meals my paternal grandfather would cook, bless him....meat so tough you couldn't chew it, tinned potatoes and mushy veg...
  • We buy these all the time as they're only 15p for a big tin in Tesco! I just halve them and stir them into casseroles or stews, once they've heated through in the sauce they taste fine. I've also used them sliced to top pies instead of mash, once they've browned a bit they taste fine.

I've stirred them into curries or made them into a potato side dish with a bit of oil, tomato puree, garam masala and onions and peppers.

I also second the Spanish omelette idea!

I like these with a little oil, in a warmed roasting pan, shake on some mixed herbs, I use dried, and roast them while im roasting meat, they sometimes take too long to brown, so a little go under the grill helps them along. If im not roasting anything else I cheat and just use the grill

Gotta say I don't normally like these but the other day I had some with some chunks of onion and curry sauce poured over and cooked in the oven ... It was yum !!
(gotta say I found the recipe on a thread on here ;))
I even froze an extra 2 portions down one of which I had for dinner tonight :D

    Hi guys,
I saw tinned potatoes in my local supermarket and wondered if anyone has any decent recipes using them?
My husband reckons they'd be horrid no matter what you do with them...but there must be a way of cooking them so they taste ok, isn't there?
    Can anyone help please?

I saw a frittata recipe that used tinned potatoes, sliced. I suppose if they compare well for price it might be worth a try.

cheap easy midweek meal for me and no.1 son.
two tins of spuds (cut in half) bung in an oven dish with chopped/grated onion, a little oil (not much) and a packet of cheap bacon cut in bits - stir it around and cook for about 50 minutes ish till crispy (drain off the excess fat/salt water) then bung on some grated cheese to melt.
    Serve with salad or sweetcorn.
    yummy.
btw I don't waste the rind of the bacon I just put it round the outside of the dish to crisp up just for me - guilty pleasure.
    xx
