Make TV always be on HDMI setting

Before I got a Sky + HD box, whenever I switched my old Sky + box on it always changed my TV to AV1, if the TV was on a terrestrial channel.

Now if the TV is on digital and the Sky box is switched on it doesn't automatically switch inputs to HDMI.

It doesn't bother me but it annoys my wife as now she has to find the TV remote and change the input using that.

How can someone not realise that if they don't see blue numbers appearing on the TV when they press a number on the Sky remote that they are not watching Sky?

My wife hates change and is a technophobe.

This didn't happen with my Sky + HD box.
I suppose there is a setting for this somewhere but I can't find it.

Is it the TV or the Sky box?

It'll be a setting in the TV's menu - but I have no knowledge of that model so cannot help further I'm afarid.

In my Panasonic TV it is:

Menu - Set up - Power on preference (TV or AV)

    But not HDMI

If you have a HDMI lead plugged into HDMI 1 it will auto switch to HDMI on switch on, with priority over Scart AV1 but as far as I am aware it is only on Panasomic TV's. Unlike Scart it's not in HDMI spec.

Wrong, was trying to help you pointing out it maybe a feature your TV does not have. Anyway it's something to consider when buying a TV!

I agree although, as it's only 'nearly immediate' (I get to see the last Freeview channel the set was switched to for a second or so first), it's not quite perfect even on a Panasonic.

retiredin2011 - have you gone into the menu to look for something similar to the Panasonic instructions above? Or had a look at your manual?
SCART (which you were using for Sky+) had this feature, and you were using it. HDMI (which you are now using for Sky+HD) does also have that feature, but not all TVs support it.
As Inner Zone says, make sure that you're using HDMI1 on the TV.
And in response to post 4 - HDMI kindof IS AV - it's an audio/video input and if you have this setting on your TV, this is what you should use.
