Changes to Ebay Final Value Fees

Yet another missive from Ebay with changes for sellers!

For those that haven't had a mail from Ebay: from 4th September Ebay will charge the Final Value Fee on the combined sale and p&p; not just the sale price. This will apply to both business and private sellers.

Additionally, they're changing the FVF percentage in many categories:

A new returns service is being introduced too.....suspect that will deserve a thread of it's own!

    Yes just been reading it.
Also buyers who click on BIN will be randomly selected to be required to pay immediately.
It says only listings with a specified postage cost will be selected - I guess that excludes all my freepost BINs then...

From autumn, if a buyer taking part in the test clicks Buy it now, your item will remain listed on the site and will only be considered as sold when the buyer has completed checkout.

All Buy it now listings that meet the following 2 conditions will prompt the buyers taking part in the test to pay immediately:

    At a price below £350.
    With a specified postage cost.

This will help to reduce cases of unpaid items and make sure your inventory continues to be available to others until the buyer pays.

Some things look OK, others are a bit

I've only skim read it so far but the increased listing fees for business sellers without a shop listing as an auction are a bit steep, going up from 15p to 30p.

I am going to have to read it properly later, but doubling my insertion fees, paying FVFs on the post and packing element but only redusing the FVFs by 1% is a big increase for my smaller items.

I may have to investigate a basic shop for !9.99 a month which inckudes 200 free BIN listings..except I don't really sell that much.

I see a long read , a calculator, back of an envelope and a bottle of wine this evening!

I really have only skim read this, but are fees for 'pivate' sellers increasing as well? I can't seem to find any details

  • I'm rather concerned by what I've read in this news. I sell in the Computers/Tablets and Networking category, and looking in their explanation of which categories will still be charged at 5%, that isn't one of them.

Does this mean my fees will be going up to 8%, an even greater 60% hike on top of the considerable hikes that happened not long ago?

Don't you fall in the consumer electronics section? 5% from Sep
  • Specifically I should say the Computer Components & Parts category (which is a subcategory of Computers/Tablets and Networking).

If you click the 'read more' and scroll down to the question about which categories will still be charged at 5%, that isn't one of them.

Apparently only some consumer electronics are being included?

I don't mind paying fees on postage per se, but I do object to sellers who offer 'free' postage now getting an advantage - as a seller of small, light items, I charge for postage on the first item but free postage om all additional items and around 50% of my customers take advantage of this and buy several items (last night I sold 19 to one customer).

Sellers in my category who offer free postage sell many fewer items than i do, so this is a bit of a kick in the teeth as this combined with the fact my items no longer qualify for TRS status is a bit much considering how close together they have both come,

A bit of fag packet calculations suggests ill be worse off to the tune of about £50 per month once the increased free listing for featured shop listings are taken into account.

It says in the FAQ at the end that private sellers will also be charged FVF on the postage, not sure if the FVF is changing though. It is going to double the amount of fees I pay in most cases as most as my stuff goes for about £3 with £3 P&P.
