O2 misinformation in store
Hi, GF was set on upgrading to an iPhone 5 but in the store they seemed to want to push her to a Samsung S4...I wonder if they get more commission?
When she said she had an ipad and wanted to use some apps on the iPhone to free up space on her ipad she was told 'everything on your ipad will get loaded onto the iPhone because it is the same account, so your iPhone would be full up too'...this didn't sound right to me so we said we would think about it.
Went down the road to the apple store who confirmed our thoughts that we were told nonsense...it seemed like they were pushing the S4 by giving out misinformation.

Beware phone shops. They're all run on commission and customers are treated like fools -- all sorts of promises can be offered because, by the time you realise you've been conned, it's your word against theirs... And if they can con you into signing something without reading it, then they can tell you whatever lies they like, knowing your signature is a "get out of jail free card" for them.
Phones4U very deliberately mislead me into believing that I was about to sign a 12-month contract with them. When I read the terms, it was clear that it was an 18-month contract. I queried this with them and they insisted that it was "really" a 12-month contract and I wouldn't be held to it if I signed... Yeah, right! By this point, I had been surrounded by FOUR salesmen in the shop and had to listen to their insinuations that I couldn't be very bright if I was turning down their "generous" (fraudulent) offer. Absolutely shocking tactics.
And (when they were still around) The Link mis-sold phone insurance by assuring me that accidental damage was covered and there was no excess charge. Blatant lies. I've never bought phone insurance since!
If a salesman/woman makes genuine promises, then they will have no problem at all putting them in writing for you, along with their name and signature, so that you will at least have evidence to submit to the court should you need to sue them.0 -
O2 do not work on commission (I work for them and the misconception is frustrating, but I understand why people think it) . And they weren't entirely incorrect when they said iPad apps won't transfer to iPhone - see this link:

I don't work for O2, but have done some retail in the past and agree, it is not comission based.
I have to say i have not or do not recall going in a store and wishing to purchase an item and the assistant is pushing something else.0 -
it may not be commision based but do they have targets ? to meet ?0

Indeed, there are targets to meet, but they aren't specified by certain handsets - if we need to hit 30 new contracts a week it doesn't matter whether it is a Samsung phone or an iPhone.
It seems strange that the OP's was pushed to a different phone, but then again, the sales advisor may have been the pushy type. Generally (or the O2 shops I've worked in) don't try to push a customer onto a different phone unless there is a good reason for doing so or unless the customer is undecided.0 -
targets may be diff to commision but again lead to dodgy sales0

Probably trying to avoid selling iphones as they wont be compatible on o2's new 4g network.0
