They have decided to call him Lucas Matthew. Matthew is his Daddys Christian name and Lucas is a name both she and I discovered together months ago. They were struggling for names and I suggested Lucas. She commented she had seen the name in a baby book and quite liked it so it went on her list.
    Nice names Judi.
Ive warned her about her milk 'coming in'. She is bottle feeding but I remember how painful it was when my milk came in. I don't want it to be a surprise. Ive talked to her about the 'baby blues' too which may or may not hit her. I must admit I found all these things a shock to me as a new Mum.
Know I'm only a man, but good advice. My daughter had baby blues, but because she was pre-warned about it, she was able to get on top of it fairly quickly (with support).
NAR I haven't forgotten your insult but i'm in too much of a good mood to bite back.
I know I've been taking advantage of you, but you know I love you really! :lovethoug

Have a bit of a disaster (self inflicted) to sort out. I changed banks this month but forgot to change the bank sort code - result no salary in bank today! So been trying to resolve that with HR, but they tell me it could be up to 5 working days before I get paid. Problem is I have approx £600 in DD's/SO's coming out this week. So I have been scrambling round trying to get money transferred into my account to meet them. :(

Love and hugs to those who are in need.

Have a good day everyone

NAR - what a bloomin pain - hope it all gets sorted for you

Judi - lovely names and great advice

    Hester - keep getting better

    LW - xx

Islandmaid - Hoover advice - I go through hoovers like nobodies business - always breaking them so I decided not to buy expensive but to give the real cheapo ones a go - I bought 1 from Argoose for about £30 ish [can't remember] and its been brilliant, its a pull along one and it has an adjustable head for hard or carpet floors, its light, bagged and I wouldn't change it for anything :] Maybe worth a go and then if its no good for you then get a dearer one but if it works for you then you've saved a fortune :]

You know, I still feel a bit like this myself, even though I moved in in 2002, and we married in 2003. Even though I paid of the last chunk of mortgage, and we had my name put on the title deeds, I still think of it as Mr LW's house. A lot of what "we" have, specially kitchen stuff, crockery and glassware, belonged to Mr LW's mother (I never knew her, she passed away a couple of months before we met) and I know it sounds daft, but I worry that she wouldn't like me using her stuff.:o

So happy it's not just me! I'm gradually infiltrating the house; we bought some new crockery yesterday (although I had to compromise at 4 plates, 4 bowls and 2 pasta bowls...I'll sneak more in some time I'm sure!) and I have a few kitchen bits - a stand mixer and a coffee machine plus the combi microwave was bought because the last one blew up in my face (it was 5 years old though!)
I think my feelings will gradually change, most of his stuff is 5yrs+old and he's starting to want new bits plus eventually we want our own place (we rent atm) so...we'll see!

.... The cherry tomatoes are ripening nicely - they should be ready to pick within the next day or so - lots of other tomatoes on the vines, but nothing ripening yet - may have to dig out the green tomato chutney recipe!...

My lottie toms are just starting to ripen - but remember that most things are several weeks behind from the cold start to the year ;)
    Morning all
    Another flying visit from me.
Thank you for the info yesterday.
    Lovely baby Judi.
My back is slowly getting better, tummy also improving, I managed half a chicken sandwich y'day.
    Hugs to all

Get well soon Hester - are you up to any crocheting yet or is it too much bother?

...Have made corgette and ginger jam, 1kg of the stuff, so i,m hoping it sets - tastes okay so far :)....

    Courgette Relish
    1.5kg unpared courgettes, grated
    250g onions, finely chopped
    1 green pepper, chopped
    1 red pepper, chopped
    5 tbsp salt
    625ml cider vinegar
    1kg caster sugar
    1tbsp grated nutmeg
    1tbsp dry mustard
    1tbsp tumeric
    1tbsp corn flour
    1/8 tsp cayenne

Combine the courgette and onions in a large bowl, sprinkle with the salt and leave to stand overnight. Drain the juices that have collected in the bowl, then rinse the vegetables in cold water and drain once more. In a large pot combine the courgette and onion with the rest of the ingredients and bring to the boil, stirring. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered for about 40 minutes until the mixture has reduced and thickened. Spoon the relish into sterilised jars while hot. Cap and seal tightly. Makes about 6 x 500ml jars

    Courgette glutney
You can alter the recipe according to what you have, and chop and change the spices to suit your taste, too. Makes about 10 jars.
1kg courgettes, unpeeled if small, peeled if huge, cut into 1cm dice (or use pumpkin later in the season)
1kg red or green tomatoes, scalded, skinned and roughly chopped (or 1kg plums, stoned and chopped)
1kg cooking or eating apples, peeled and diced
    500g onions, peeled and diced
500g sultanas / raisins / chopped dates / chopped apricots
    500g light brown sugar
750ml white-wine or cider vinegar, made up to 1 litre with water
    1-3 tsp dried chilli flakes
    1 tsp salt
    For the spice bag
1 thumb-sized nugget of fresh or dried ginger, roughly chopped
    12 cloves
    12 black peppercorns
    1 (generous) tsp coriander seeds
    A few blades of mace
Put the vegetables and fruit in a large, heavy-based pan with the sultanas or raisins, sugar, vinegar and water, chilli flakes and salt.
Make up the spice bag by tying all the spices in a square of muslin or cotton. Add the spice bag to the pan, pushing it into the middle.
Heat the mixture gently, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar, and bring slowly to the boil. Simmer for 2-3 hours, uncovered, stirring regularly to ensure it does not burn on the bottom of the pan. The chutney is ready when it is rich, thick and reduced, and parts to reveal the base of the pan when a wooden spoon is dragged through it. If it starts to dry out before this stage is reached, add a little boiling water.
Pot up the chutney while still warm (but not boiling hot) in sterilised jars with plastic-coated screw-top lids (essential to stop the vinegar interacting with the metal). Leave to mature for at least two weeks - ideally two months - before serving.

    Can I borrow a tenner? :D

Which brings me to my other piece of good news. Recently I mentioned hubby paid off his loan early. I also mentioned that we have altered the contract on our phones or rather hubby has because he pays for all three of them. Well by doing this he has saved himself £600 a month! Mind you his bank account has took a battering.:(

I'm keen to change our utility supplier too but he's dragging his heels on that one.

No, £600 a month. His loan was £500+(call it his moment of madness). Then there was the PPI.... and finally the phones. ;)

It has been persisting down all day with quite a bit of thunder, but no lightning.
I had to go down town to get the month's shopping money out of the bank. I am angry that Barclay's are using our personal information for their own gains :mad::mad::mad::mad: So I will just keep drawing out cash and watch them try to track what I am spending my money on. We are currently looking at options for a new bank, but evidently Llyod's are following suite :( They are all thieving, sleazy, lying scumbags, so who to choose?

Julie, halight is on holiday, that is why he has not been posting.
