Tesco Scan & shop BIG PROBLEM

Wonderful I said, how are you doing that? By giving you £164.12 she replied. Actually my food bill was £222.51, which I explained to her.
Again she went off to see her boss who confirmed the offer of the £40 gift card.
I can't quite make sense of the OP's story of events, it sounds like they were offered double the difference in overcharge, but reading the quoted part above, they were only offered the actual 1x difference.
If it was double the mis-charged amount then that is a very good offer. If it was just an offer of a refund of only the difference, then legally this offer would stand up in court. Faced with the offer of correcting the mistake + a £40 giftcard, I would probably accept this. If the offer was twice the mis-charged amount, then I would definitely accept it! Any court would likely only agree that a refund of the single overpayment + costs (petrol and telephone call costs) is satisfactory.0 -
They should of accepted DTD + £40 and THEN argued the toss about it on here. Complete numpty in my opinion.0

For the record we were not looking for Tesco to wipe out our mortgage or pay for a lovely holiday to the Maldives with a fab offer but more like "this is a serious issue" and deal with it accordingly. I don't feel they have done the "right thing" at all.
So what would be the "right thing"? Are you looking for more money from them? Because I'd agree with everyone else that DTD + £40 is a wildly generous offer (and makes me glad I'm not a Tesco shareholder any more if they are that profligate with their money).
Or are you looking for them to instigate an investigation into what happened and provide you with an explanation and an assurance that the problem will be resolved? I'm not aware of any Tesco in Scotland that has "shop & scan", but assuming it's the sort of system Sainsbury's had years ago where you take a hand-held scanner round with you then I'd agree that it does need to be made fool proof. But I'm not sure that expecting an individual store to sort it out is the right approach, if the fault is really what you were told then it will need to be corrected at a higher level. So I would take the money, and do some research to find out which Tesco director is responsible for IT, then write to them with your concerns.0 -
My gosh, as a student and part-time worker, I would be over the moon with an offer of a free £160 to spend at Tesco, plus free wine and flowers/a £40 gift card. Most other shops would just refund you the money and apologise. The fact Tesco has gone above and beyond to please even at just the first instance is extraordinary. And they kept upping the offer! If only more companies were as generous.0

Good idea to get the DTD+ offer while it is on the table then fight the campaign for other customers (which if I am reading it right, is what the motivation for the post is).
It is a concern if your shop could get mixed with someone else's using these self-scans.
That said, if they take self-scan/self-serve any further we will be unpacking the lorries as they arrive.

Indeed, it is a concern and occurs more than people realise and not just self- scan, the assistants at the checkouts often make mistakes which is why people should check their receipt before leaving the shop.
Just last week while in Iceland, my bonus card was swiped only for my points to go another customer, a Mrs. B Sheehan, I presume the lady in front of me.
Never mind, it hasn't cost hardly anything, just a missed entry into a prize draw. Certainly will not happen to me again. It is nice however when the person in front leaves something behind
and the assistant chucks it in the bag thinking it's yours:DYou may question anything I say. Just be polite, otherwise you go straight on to my Ignore List, which funds a good old fashioned knees-up every Xmas. Cheers;)0 -
Take the money!!
They made a mistake and they're willing to apologise and compensate you for it. What else do you want them to do?
If everybody kicked up this kind of fuss every time a supermarket made an error they'd go out of business. What will your verse be?
R.I.P Robin Williams.0 -
What is it that you want from Tesco? If it were me, and given what they have already offered, I'd suggest asking them to pay for all your shopping, which is only slightly more than they have already offered you. I don't think it's too much for you to ask given that they have stolen from you.
Also ask them to report back to you following their investigations and follow it up with them if you can be bothered. And then never shop there again.
Praise, vents and warnings is where this thread belongs, I think.0 -
Call me cynical, but is this a troll posting?
If it is then 10/10 for effort, that was a fab story.0 -
I can understand the £3 to £4 part of the arguement and in my case it would take probably £10 - £15 to make me stay in store and check. I have sometimes driven home thinking ''that was a bit high'' but then when parking up at home you notice the 60 inch plasma sticking out of your sunroof and the crate of malt rattling around the boot.:rotfl:
But to turn down the offer that was offered is a little strange.
If the OP was really concerned about other customers then print off the story and stick it on all the cars in the Tesco carpark.:cool:0
