Very, very clever people who created that web-site.

Unfortunately I doubt that we can do much except publicise what they are doing.

It is right there on the first page that they are not the DVLA and that you can do everything for free elsewhere.

If they are illegal then so is the Post Office for charging good money for a counter assistant to 'check' you passport application.

It's an utter disgrace and a total swindle but all you can do is consider it a learning experience.
  • What do I do about the personal details of my child they have on record? Do I inform the DVLA incase someone else tries to obtain one in the same name etc? Im really worried.
Things will get better day by day.
  • The address on the letter head was an address in London and the post mark on the envelope received was sunderland.

Basically, as they are a proper company, you can ask for your data to be removed, they probably will. because they make enough 'legitimate' money anyway.

Since its not illegal to provide admin basically, they are within the law

The address on the letter head was an address in London and the post mark on the envelope received was sunderland.

And the site itself is hosted in the British Virgin Islands - A self governing Overseas Territory of the UK, with no privacy or data security laws whatsoever!

So pretty-much, you have enabled them to do whatever they want with your info and bank details. Which is pretty normal for these "apply for" bottom feeders - they nearly always turn out to be hosted somewhere with a lax/flexible attitude to data security.

The best thing you could do now is contact your bank and tell them your details have been compromised and to put a stop on all further activity on that account until you get new cards/numbers issued.

Hosting details are very easy to check and should be done-so before starting any activity on any new/untrusted site.

The company behind it is called Caveat Viator Ltd ("traveller beware"). I believe they do overpriced passport applications too. I rather like the name. At least they're upfront about their dishonesty.

It's a trap for the unwary, but at the end of the day it's not illegal to charge money for filling in a form for someone.

Margaret Snatcher and David Macaroon would be proud of them.

Fantastic entrepreneurial spirit / spotting a gap in the market / fulfilling a need / providing a public service etc etc.

This is how to get rich at the expense of the naive and unwary.

I detest such activities - but there are those who admire this kind of thing and will be annoyed they didn't think of it first.

If you can be bothered, just keep searching online then clicking their advert. Each time you do that, they pay google a few pence in advertising fees. Do it hundreds of times and you've cost them more than your fee!

But IMO google shouldn't accept adverts which are borderline scams, so by doing this, google keeps benefiting.

Can I stop the credit card payment and send them the form back under the distance selling regulations?
