Help me choose please. Tesco or ??

Hi All

My head is spinning from the different offers that are on at the moment. I was an O2 Customer who was sold off to Sky. I'm looking for a similar package to my O2 Anytime:

Broadband and home phone package (Can be separate though.)
Unlimited Usage
Anytime calls
Free calls to US and Europe. 100 mins or more.
Budget £20-£30 per month.

The closest I can get is Tesco Broadband Unlimited: http://www.tescobroadband.com/tesco-broadband/anytime-package

The only problem is it doesn't have the international calls. On average I make about 30 mins of international calls per month. I also use access numbers to call the Caribeaan a lot but these were charged at cost. With Tesco there will be an added 13pm connection charge which will add up to quite a bit.

I would prefer not go with TalkTalk or BT due to very poor customer service in the past.

I'm stuck. Any suggestions please?

Apart from Murdoch what's wrong with sticking with Sky?

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

Murdock? Sky? Competition? Monopolies? Price Hikes? Any one of those. Having said that, if the price\offering was right I think I would actually consider staying with them. It's more a question of my current O2 pricing:

My basic O2 bill is £29.00* (Anytime, Broadband + Unlimited calls) and I spend £5-10 on access numbers and international texts per month. So my last bill was £38.00. It just seems a bit steep now.

I completely missed the free for 12 months offer and have only lately had any real time to look into options.

*It went up to from £23 to £29 earlier this year. Half-price line rental offer came to an end.

Since broadband is exchange-specific, there is no universal 'best'. So start with an exchange search on www.samknows.com for your available LLU providers.
Why didn't you just take the O2 12m free broadband offer though?

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about the 12 month offer until it was too late unfortunately.

Here's what Sam says is available in my location...
    • BT Wholesale ADSL
    • BT Wholesale ADSL Max
    • BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
    • BT Wholesale SDSL
    • BT FTTC
    • AOL LLU
    • O2 / Be LLU
    • Bulldog LLU
    • TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
    • Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
    • Pipex LLU
    • Tiscali LLU
    • Tiscali TV (via Tiscali LLU)
    • Urban Wimax
    • Virgin Media (Cable)
    And it says...
    • ADSL is available in your area
    • Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
    • Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL2+ services
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support

    up to 2Mbps via ADSL
8Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max
    13.5Mbps or greater via ADSL2+
    Standard ADSL RAG results
    • You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
    • You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
    • You can receive 512kbps ADSL
    • You can receive 256kbps ADSL
If anyone can make any recommendations based on that I'd appreciate it. I may have to do seperate broadband and phone to get a better deal.

    Thanks all for your help.

Sky really is the obvious choice there, but if you don't want that or TT, then I suggest you look at a non-LLU option such as Plusnet.
TT would have been a possible contender because they offer an international call boost for about a fiver.

I will go back, take a look at all the options and take things from there.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

I called Sky today and they offered me twelve months free broadband!! :) Before calling them I'd shortlisted Tesco and PlusNet. Here's the prices per month for unlimited broadband and phone calls based on current offers for the first year of usage:

    Sky
    Line Rental 14.50
    Call Package 5.00
    Broadband 0.00
    Monthly 19.50

    Tesco:
    Line Rental 14.90
    Call Package 4.50
    Broadband 2.00*
    Monthly 21.40

    PlusNet
    Line Rental 14.50
    Call Package 5.00
    Broadband 6.24*
    Monthly 21.40

PlusNet have an international calls booster which is an extra £2 per month so this would be £27.74.

*Tesco - Broadband - £2 per month for six months. £6 per month thereafter.

**PlusNet - £4.99 per month for 9 months. £9.99 per month thereafter.

It looks like the best option is to go with Sky. I'm tempted by the PlusNet International Calls option but at £27.74 it seems a bit steep.

If you'd stayed on 02 then you'd have got the 12m free broadband just the same-just one phone call was all that was required.
