Mad? Blame Becky - I would never have considered anything but easy runs so early in a morning before, but having tried I am now convinced that performance is just as good, if not better, early morning on nice relaxed muscles.
At the end of the day we do mostly race early morning so I suppose it should be no surprise really!:D
I bet you're still grinning, because you know you're going to get a time beginning with a '4' in the not too distant future based on that!:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Yes that elusive '4' isn't too far away I can tell. I am sure it is all a question of confidence and if keep on with the training and continue to build my fitness I know it is within my grasp. Enjoy your session tomorrow.Sealed Pot Challenge #8 £341.90

rich and chickadee your both doing so well, good on you for getting on with your training over the festive period.
I didnt manage to get any done as when we went home we stayed at a travelodge on the side of a duel carriage and the oh came down with the winter virus so had to look after the kids aswell as oh.
Im so annoyed, yesterdas training was ruined by a horrible headache that just hurt so much to run, so only managed to walk about a mile on the treadmill before getting kicked out of the gym.
Everytime my feet hit the ground my head just throbed so had to give it up.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
Week19
Mon5/1 Rest Day
Tues6/1 3 x 1 Mile (6:29, 6:16, 6:18) (Average 6:21) (Pulse 126)
Morning everyone!:D
That was certainly the lowest temperature in which I've taken on an interval session at -5.5c!!
An additional 2 laps were added to the warm up to attempt to get the muscles up to temperature but, as the time of the first rep indicates, it still wasn't quite enough!
The reps were also slightly longer than usual due to the inside lane being out of action due to ice.
So, all in all, I'm delighted to get any sort of improvement today with the best average so far at 6:21 (previous best 6:25) and the fastest 2 miles so far at 6:16 and 6:18 (previous best 6:21).
A good start to the day!:D
Have a great day and wrap up warm!!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Well done rich on the interval training, especially as its sooooooo cold today.
Will be doing circuit training today at 10.30 so hopefully that will get the blood flowing, and if iv enough time after circuits i may attempt a couple of miles.Running Club5KM - 25:20(51.21%) 10KM - 53:40(50.26%)1/2 Marathon - 2.14.57(44.20%)Marathon 5:11:00 (40.78%)0 -
An update really, only managed a few runs in the past week or so, mainly due to family & kitchen commitments. But ill update the list..
Have the beep test later, not feeling as light as usual, probably due to no big run on sunday, but will attempt it again wearing thermals to keep the legs warm.
The list..
So the list goes on, and now it becomes....
Wk 1
Sun 7th Dec - Skegness 4.5k fun run in 22m 53s
Tues 9th Dec - 3.1 (5k) mile jog / run just under 30mins (non-stop)
Thur 11th Dec - 3.1 (5k) mile jog / run 30m 38s (non-stop)
Wk 2
Sun 14th Dec - 3.5mile jog / partial run in 35m20s
Tues 16th Dec - 3.1 (5k) total failure - walked it
Thur 18th Dec - 3.1mile (5k) in 28mins 47secs
Wk 3
Sun 21st Dec - 4.1miles in 45mins (estimated - not timed)
Wed 24th Dec - 2.97mile in 28mins (estimated - not timed)
Friday 27th Dec - 3miles in just under 30mins
Wk 4
Mon 30th Dec - 2.5miles in under 30mins (a run when away)
Sun 4th Jan - 2.97miles in under 30mins (reduced times due to pain in left leg)
So, not too good for the past week. 1 run was just a run to get out, the other left me with pain in my left calf for the remainder of the day, would not clear with stretches. See how things run later today, but either way ill be out again tonight for the 3miler.0 -
Hi all and wishing you all a very happy New Year! ysterday was first day back in the office after the festive break. Managed to do two runs over the period which helped with all the 'fatty' stuf consumed. From tomorrow back to my regular 3 times per week runs at lunch time.

Morning all and thanks for your support and advice so far! I still haven't been out! The pavements here are covered in black ice - I really don't fancy a broken leg this early in my training!!! I am a member of a gym but hate the treadmill - If this weather keeps up I am going to have to go as I'm back at work on Thurs night and won't do anything for 3 days.
How many times per week do you think I should be running/walking? And should I be doing other excersise in between (like spinning/swimming)?0 -
Judi,
There is no number of sessions that you should start with, other than what you feel comfortable with.
Initially though the sessions in which you start out as a run should be 3 days apart. The reason for this is that the peak day for muscle soreness from a run is the second day after a run not the next day. It is best to get past this peak soreness and let some recovery have taken place before creating more damage.
Over time your muscles will become trained, slowly but surely, and you will be able to run virtually every day should you so wish.:DGt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

Did the beep test today, got to level 9.0, started to cheer the others on that were struggling. 9.1 they dropped out as they were a few steps behind me, 9.04, well on the turn to 9.05 i stopped. Had to get to 9.10 to pass.
I was off the beep, a good 1/2 second off it many times and could not catch it up. Was really sprinting to catch the beep at the line, to turn again and sprint again.
Not the end of the world, just need to work out if im going out for a run tonight or not, legs are pretty achy at the moment.0
