Minimum of 1000 miles per pair and maximum £30 is my equation!:p (But often £15-£20!).

Btw Kms, it is very unusual to do half your total mileage in races - I don't know how you do it!

    Easy

By not racing in all my races ;)

Unfortunatly i need certain types of trainers due to my running style but with a brand new pair unused (well until today) and 100 or so miles in my other pair i'll be fine until may/june before needing another pair. Although i generally try and have two pairs on the go to allow a bit of rest/drying out time between uses.

So, kms, I bet the person who said you would never run a marathon had to eat his words! Your racing schedule is unreal! I could never do those kind of distances, well, not every weekend :p

    Hey Chickadee,

Do you realise that because of you all the F40s and all the M40s after you are wrong.:p

In fact, thinking about it, all the M40s and all the F40s are wrong because of the number in category. 1 email and you could cause a lot of work!!!:p :p

One goal blog sorted annoyingly i cant get a refund on my train tickets for Country to City as advance tickets dont allow refunds.

Rejigging of Goal targets for 2009
Previously i stated nice round figures for target times ie sub 24 for 5k etc. Now looking at my WAVA time page i think some WAVA related target times needed added too.

Will be using my sub 24 etc times as well as WAVA times for 52.5 and 55% to stretch me that little bit more.

    5k PB 25:10 51.39% wava
    Time target sub 24
    Wava 52.5% target time 24:42
    Wava 55% target time 23:34

    10k PB 51:53 51.98% wava
    Time target sub 50
    Wava 52.5% target time 51:24
    Wava 55% target time 49:03

    10 mile PB 1:28:36 50.13% wava
    Time target sub 85
    Wava 52.5% target time 1:24:36
    Wava 55% target time 1:20:45

    Half PB 1:57:03 50.6% wava
    Time target sub 1:55
    Wava 52.5% target time 1:52:48
    Wava 55% target time 1:47:45

    Marathon PB 4:26:23 46.9% wava
    Time target sub 4:15
    Wava 50% target time 4:10:02
    Wava 52.5% target time 3:57:56
    Wava 55% target time 3:47:18

Looking at this times the shorter ones are nearer the golden 55% wava figures so it looks like more long runs are needed to sort the longer ones out. Was also intending to do some speedwork this year which will benefit both shorter races and longer ones too.

Was out today for the first run of the year and managed 11.55 miles in 1:54 @ 9:54 pace which was a bit of a struggle but then i recall struggling on this route last time i did it. It sprobably down to the fact its uphill all the way until i turn for home. That and i haven't ran this far for ages, my longest (IE over 6 miles) was stockport 10 a month ago when the hip injury played up.

Today there was no noticeable problems from the hip, although their was occasional minor grumbles. General aches and pains right now as per normal. Will be doing stretching twice a week when not running as well as some stretching after running too this year which should help injury prevention and probably a little towards speeding up.

Have decided against running Country to City a week on saturday as i feel the distance is too far at my current fitness and my hip isn't 100% sorted yet so its best not to aggrevate it further. Will also be ditching Tring2Town too for similar reasons.

We have snow here today, and my walk into work was more of an audition for "dancing on ice" so I am not expecting to try out my new trainers today.....

If the snow and ice has cleared when I get home from work, I will head out around the block a couple of times, but otherwise, an evening by the radiator may be my preferred option!

Good luck to anyone going out today, and wrap up warm brrrrr.

    Morning all
I'm new to the running club thread - directed here by Hypno - Thank you x
I want to start running - I turn 40 this year and really wanted to run a marathon before I turned 40! Don't ask me why! It is just something I wanted to do! But last year I had a bit of a tough year and didn't do much in the way of excersise - I used to do spinning 3 times a week at the gym but I haven't really done anything since October and I have never done any running!

So realistically I'm not sure a marathon is achievable this year!

I have been looking at events and was thinking of aiming for the Manchester 10k in May and the Great North run in October (idealy I would love to do the Loch Ness Marathon in October but I have no idea if this is remotely possible!)

Anyway - I have been out and bought my first ever pair of running shoes and I'm raring to go! (Reduces from £59.99 to £29.99 and I had a £20 voucher so very MSE!:D )

Any advice on training schedules would be greatly appreciated!

hi there judi!! Glad you came to visit - we are a friendly bunch (albeit a little strange at times!!)

I am sure our resident coach, Rich, will be along in due course with "real" advice, but I would say, put your trainers on - head out steadily, no sprinting otherwise you will collapse before you reach the first corner, and just see how far you go before you really need to walk - not WANT to walk, but NEED to walk. that then becomes your marker to improve next time.

There are differing opinions as to whether you should run until you drop, then just walk the rest of the way, or whether you run until you drop, then walk until you have recovered a bit, then run a bit more etc.

I would say, go according to how you feel - if you want to walk the rest of the way, then fine, if you want to get running again, then do so.

Good luck! 10k in May and the Great North Run at the end of the year are both very achievable, and a marathon in October is quite possible if you are sensible with your training - I only started training for my marathon in October, which will give me 6 months, Becky and Sally were a little earlier, but neither (I don't think) started more than about 10 months before their intended marathons, so that is about the same as your time frame, proving that we are all just as mad :rotfl:
