I obviously need thicker socks though!

wow thats pretty interesting - I wonder what my % body fat is...actually maybe I dont want to know...

25-30 is low for women though! I doubt mine will ever be that low, but its interesting thats it says it takes a while before you notice it...

Becky goes off to work out how much fat shes lost to date...
  • The other relevant fact is that, unlike most people, you do virtually all your runs after fasting overnight, leading to much higher fat burning!

Okay so my starting weight was 10 stone 7 and I run about 30 miles a week...

Which is 66.67*48.28 = 3218.83/9=357.65/2=178.82 grams per week...

    But now its:
    161.82 grams

Does looks right Rich? Hmmm I wonder what my rough total to date is??

It looks about right - in the region of a marathon per week, so 6-8 oz per week. But thats directly from the running, you've also got increased metabolism for a few hours afterwards and reduced calorie intake, so you're losing in the region of 2lbs per week - although that will slow to a standstill soon, otherwise there'll be no Becky!:p

I reckon I could lose another stone or so and be on racing weight then, that would still only put me at 8 stone 4 or so which isnt that tiny for someone my height! Only be BMI 19 or so which is still in 'healthy'...not that I'm all that bothered to be honest - I only really care because it makes me faster :)
  • It was a starvation diet Becky,
I lost 4 stone in 3 months...a promptly put it all back on again. *sigh*

Now, I finished with diets-I want to be fit, and healthy and be a good role model for my kids.

Evening everybody...blimey its taken me ages to read all of todays posts. Everyone seems to be getting on great. I am going running tomorrow :j Im so excited...is that sad? Aiming to do a nice slow (fat burning run!). That info was great Rich. Does anyone know how accurate those scales are that tell you your fat %?
I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

  • hey sally - you enjoy your run...hope it goes well for you..!

I keep reading and rereading the info from Rich to ascertain what it means for a slow running fat person, whether that's good or bad....
I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....

Not very is the answer I think, Sally!

    How is body fat measured?
There are problems in applying the standard methods for assessment of body composition to athletic populations, and it is not clear that any of the methods commonly used for the general population is entirely reliable. At health clubs and elsewhere, fat levels are usually assessed by use of skinfold callipers to measure the thickness of the fat layer that lies below the skin at various different sites on the body. The results are then fed into an equation that predicts the body fat level based on a comparison with more accurate measurements made on a group of ‘normal’ people. Predictive equations for estimating body fat content based on indirect methods are unreliable for several reasons, not least because the equations that are generated from normal populations are not applicable to elite athletes. Such methods have been widely used, but the results of these measurements must be treated with caution, especially if you are an athlete.

Thanks hun...I hope it goes well too and I can do some decent mileage!

What it means for a gorgeous maz is that as long as your slow run is not actually making your heart rate really high then you should be burning fat. I def think that my problem is that I have been running too fast and burning glycogen and not fat  . From now on Fat burning is the priority so that the running is easier, Im healthier and I should get quicker :j
