I'd better post at least one (directly) running related comment today. RE: running downhill, I think it's largely a confidence thing. If you're not used to doing it, you may be afraid you'll trip and so shorten your stride. Tripping when running downhill is of course much worse than running uphill or on level ground! Myself I run downhill with quite a long stride but I would say reasonably cautious and I use it to get my breath back a bit. But I've got a low centre of gravity (read: short legs) like Rich.
There is definitely a skill to this and once fit you can really go for it downhill, but all the muscles need to be really firm first (or at least thats what I found).
I once had a fellow club member who was a fell runner for England. If you want to know how to run downhill these guys are amazing. They basically make sure their feet have minimum contact with the ground, just like fleeting little skips like a skimming pebble.
The alternative is to run flat races - problem solved!Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

And anyway you should take a leaf out of Snaggles book and learn how to rest without feeling guilty or thinking you're going to be unfit through having a few days off.
So there!
I sort of ran. A bit.
I really didn't intend to, I set off to school walking and suddenly realised I was running there....via the park.......

Its better to just pick 3 events at different points in the country, give plenty notice and then see who can make them. Otherwise it just goes on and on and on becoming an ever increasing headache.
Ok I will look for 3 then and make them north, midlands and south then people can choose which they might like to participate inI'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change And breakaway. I'll take a risk, take a chance, make a change and breakaway ....

How silly of me. I forget all my time will now be organised by someone else!
I just realised I haven't even mentioned my participation in this thread to my OH. Maybe I better had, before I say "bye (new wife), I'm just off for the weekend to meet up with some people off the internet who I've never met. Hi Snaggles,
Wasnt sure if someone has already come back to you, but the Race for Life generally start allowing sign ups in Feb - well you can register your interest then, and once the site is live they email you so you can sign up.
Cancer Research are also doing 10k runs - I'm doing one next Sunday at Hampton Court. I am terrified as I havent run that far before, and training alone is completely knackering me out. But as you mentioned, it is a great sense of acheivement to run for something that matters to you.
Good luck everyone else racing this month!
Angela
Thanks very much Angela. If I tell everyone I'm going to be doing it, then I wont be able to back out, even though I can't actually enter yet.
So I have until spring to get myself ready for it.....eek! I've never done anything like that in my entire life."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Its a fair point!
