    I realise this is an old post, but that is not remotely a scam... To reach different tiers you have to spend a certain amount of money - whether you choose to spend that with Paypoint or in Tesco is completely up to you.

    The only way you could really classify it as a scam is if the person was trying to trick an unaware sales assistant in a shop where you know the policy is not to take AMEX for paypoint.
