I've been thinking of making this for ages now and it has just occurred to me that it would probably be perfect with the (very, very) reduced raspberries I got that have been in the freezer. Would I put some apples in too? Would I have to defrost them first? I don't think I could do raspberries on their own, I'm not a berry girl really.
Hi Mariel! I do a lovely apple and blackberry cobbler and I've often used frozen blackberries, still frozen. As long as they're separate, and not a frozen block (:rotfl: ) there's no problem.

I fancy this too as i only usually make a savoury cobbler. I have some brown bananas that need using, would these work by themselves or would i need a wetter fruit as well eg apples ?

Personally I wouldnt use bananas. I tried them in another recipe once and they just went all mushy and slimy.

I made one last night with 3 pears - peeled, cored and quartered.

We had it with ice cream and it was lovely - much better than a cheap frozen dessert.

I also sprinkled a little sugar over the top to make a slight crust.

    hi

i was just wondering if there was anyone that knows how to make a savoury cobbler?

i've had a go at the fruit one, but i've got a tin of stewing steak that's been sitting in my cupboard doing nothing for months, and i thought it might be a good way to use it up

i think it should be more along the lines of a dumpling mix, but i don't really know where to start

    Dumpling recipe:

    Ingredients
    1 1/2 cups (6oz) self-raising flour
    3/8 cup (3oz) suet
    cold water to mix

    Method
    - Mix all ingredients together to form a stiff dough
    - Form into as many dumplings as required.
    - Put into the stew or casserole for the last half an hour of cooking.

Couldn't be easier! I make mine about 3cm round - they grow to about 5cm when cooked. For a crispy top you can stick the casserole under the grill for 5 min on high (or until browned to your liking). You can also sprinkle on some cheese :)

It's worth noting that you can make a fruit cobbler with a scone mixture too ;) If you make it a bit wetter than usual you can dollop spoonfuls of the mixture onto the fruit/meat.
