Hi all.

I have been struggling to buy a garden cabin - I had no idea how many sharks there are out there!

I've found one I like with a company called Garden Quick Ltd. Their web site looks great, but I'm just wondering if anyone has used them and can give an honest opinion please?

Failing that, anyone know an honest, non sharky, reasonably priced garden cabin company, lol?

Thanks.

Right, I've had a good look around the website and I have to say that they are rather disingenuous with some of the information they provide.

    1. In big letters on the home page it says 'Pay Only Upon Delivery' Pay 20% upfront and the remaining 80% by bank transfer when your log cabin arrives. I'm afraid to say they're being economical with the truth.

When I tested out the buying process using made up details I found that only applied if I also paid the initial 20% by bank transfer. To pay by credit card I needed to pay the lot upfront. Unless you have absolute faith in a merchant, you should never pay by this method because it's non-traceable. Your money could very well disappear without trace and the log cabin may not materialise. To be fair credit card payment is completely secure, going over an SSL connection although I didn't go as far as to enter fake credit card details to see what would happen. Some internet shysters will tell you that they were unable to process the credit card so please pay by bank transfer.

    2. A bit further down the page they say they have an article featured in a gardening magazine. This is not true. It's an advert.

    3. On the Contact Us page, the billing address is an accomodation address. This will just redirect any post received. They've managed to spell it wrong as well: Fincley instead of Finchley.

The UK warehouse is in fact a freight forwarder:

The telephone number is actually for a company called E-call Connect who provide a pre-paid telephone service. I'm guessing it's another re-direct.

    http://www.e-callconnect.co.uk/

    4. According to the Domain Registration, which all websites must have, the registrant is a non-trading individual who has opted to have their address omitted from the WHOIS service.

    I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I suggest you try asking for advice on the Greenfingered board.

  • Thanks for such a brilliant reply!

I was a bit concerned as they have lots of reviews on Trustpilot that look really dodgy. They are all over about 3 days, 1 of the reviews is from the bloke who is pictured on the website as the boss, 2 of them use exactly the same (unusual) phrase in the text and one of them actually says "our fitters" put our new cabin up well etc!

I can't believe how difficult it is to get an honest supplier. I ordered and paid the deposit for one cabin, having checked out the company on the web, then phoned and emailed twice to confirm full details.

The company then said the picture was not of the cabin I could have as they no longer had the same doors and windows, but could not show me a picture of the style I would receive.......not really acceptable for £2K!!!

Oh well, let the search recommence!

Don't trust anything on Trustpilot. It's an entirely worthless website because, in return for a payment, they allow merchants to vet reviews. This means any bad ones get deleted and rogue merchants will add ridiculously praiseworthy ones of their own.

I used Tiger Sheds recently to purchase a shed
    http://www.tigersheds.com/

Understand that you are looking for a cabin which they also sell.
I was pleased with the quality and service was pretty good (took a few more days to supply than they predicted but I wasn't too fussed)

Maybe worth a look to see how they compare to what you have seen on other sites??
  • RE: Tigersheds - please what ever you do avoid Tigersheds as a supplier unless you want to wait endlessly for your purchase.I am currently dealing with them as are many others poor sufferers on other blog sites. They are untrustworthy, I will leave the matter for now but return to this site and give you a helpful strategy in how to deal with them in order to avoid paying a large 25% financial penalty to extricate yourself from their conditions of purchases which are bogus.
  • Hiya myself and husband have recently purchased a cabin and I went through thinking exactly same as you as their seems to be a lot of sharks out there. After much looking around it was a choice of John inksters which is local to us or cabinville as we had read reviews on here,
We chose cabinville purely through price as it included all roof shingles, guttering, insulation, double glazed windows and cost wise was a good £700 cheaper.
The cabin we chose was the hippodrome with 44mm wall logs although their is an option to upgrade to thicker ones.
Cabinville were very helpful from start to finish.we paid a 20% deposit when ordering and then the final payment just before delivery.
We treated, stained and built the cabin ourselves, the cabin was very easy to build all just slotted together, was built in 1 day, then the shingles etc was done the next.its all kitted out now as a guest room, kids room.Even during the hot weather due to having the insulation it kept it very cool and comfortable.
If you need any further help or would like to see pictures just let me know.
  • Update on Quick-Garden review request.
    I ordered a 6m x 4m garage from them.
OK it arrived in 11 days instead of the promised 8, but there were two large pieces that were damaged.
I have received 4 promised dates for replacement, but, 5 weeks later, the replacements have still not arrived.
ALSO: they have their own facebook page - any adverse comments placed on there get deleted - bottom line, in my opinion, is don't trust them.
  • I believe quick garden to be a genuine company. They probably do well with their standard buildings, but they seem to be totally out of depth with my large 40 foot by 12 foot workshop. More than 65 pieces were missing on delivery. When I called to mention this, I was initially not believed - "are you sure you haven't mis-counted" was the implication. The structure is half built and we have run out of pieces to continue - they are definitely missing - not mis-counted! Eventually after hours of communication - mainly by email - I was told the parts would be replaced but it would take 10 days before they would arrive in the UK. My experience of their delivery contractor is that this could take a further 2 weeks. Neither Quick Garden nor their delivery firm seem to understand any sense of responsibility nor urgency to meet their customer's needs.
Incidentally Quickgarden.co.uk are neither quick nor in the UK!
As far as Trustpilot is concerned - don't trust them! They won't print my review (roughly as above) because they say I haven't proved that I am a genuine customer even though I have sent a copy of my invoice, a copy of the delivery communication from Quick Garden and a copy of correspondence from Quick Garden stating when replacement parts would arrive. My belief is that they have shown my review to Quick Garden who have told them not to publish it. I am therefore going to publish it everywhere I can!
