Just a rant

So my son sent off for an ID card now he's 18, paid extra so it would be done in 5 days, sent it off last week, the money has been taken and it should have been here by latest today but nothing so phone them and it's not been done due to them not being able to get hold of the verifier of his photos/documents, although his wife has passed on the message for him to get in touch but still nothing!

So now my son is an extra £10 out of pocket as it's not within the 5 days and also can't go out this weekend as planned to celebrate a friends birthday! I know there is nothing that can be done but it's really knocked me as I have done quite a few favours for the verifier over the years and just yesterday I sorted some computer stuff for him but now I just feel like he and a few others are just taking the proverbial and once more I'm just there to be used for their gain! I need to stop being so nice! :(

Anyone else out there too nice for their own good?

Ouch, definitely sounds like someone is taking the mick. Give the verifer a call and ask what the heck he is playing at!

Your lad would have been better off getting a passport as some places (Sainsburys for instance as I was surprised to read in their garage) don't accept ID cards any more - due to their 'Think 25' policy.

I have tried calling verifier but surprise surprise no answer, I said about getting a passport but son didn't have the money for it, I'm just so cross and upset that son now can't be part of his friends celebrations!

My daughter - who just turned 18 - had no problem buying booze in the midlands at Asda and tesco *and* sainsburys as she had her I.D card supplied by the council. Yes they can refuse to serve you if you do not look 25, but if you have I.D. they won't refuse. At least, they haven't refused to serve her - or her pals. as long as they have I.D.

To the OP, my daughter's I.D. took 2 weeks, as there was some 'confusion' and her application didn't get sent off, but we didn't pay extra.

Also, why can your son not go out with his friends? My daughter has been going out with hers for a year, she just did not have alcohol. Your son doesn't have to drink alcohol to have a good time does he?

It's at a nightclub so no under 18's allowed, he's not a big drinker anyway but not the point if he can't even get in the venue! :(

Oh bummer :( Could his pals maybe go somewhere like a restaurant where under 18s can go? This is what my daughter and her pals have done.

Well I can only go by our Sainsburys (where my Mum works). I asked her about it and she was told, as per the notice put up in the petrol station, they can no longer accept ID cards, only passports or driving licences.

I'm glad it isn't everywhere and the OP's son won't have wasted his money!

Unfortunately it's all planned out and sorted and son has told them just to go and have a good time as he didn't want them all changing everything for him bless him! I keep hoping for a miracle and that his card will magically turn up tomorrow but that's just not our luck haha!!

It's partly sons fault too for leaving getting ID till the last minute but it's just a shame he's had to learn the hard way!

I'm sorry to hear that Kate. Hopefully he can go out and celebrate when he gets his ID.

By the way is it the PASS I.D? This one... http://www.pass-scheme.org.uk/

Re; Sainsburys refusing - the council told my daughter (when she applied for the card,) to report anyone to them who refuses to serve her, as they are actually not supposed to refuse, because it is an official I.D. My daughter had to provide her passport to get it, and if you don't have one, you have to get someone official to state that it is her (or him.)

On the website, it says that they will investigate retailers or bars etc that refuse to accept it. http://www.pass-scheme.org.uk/for-young-people/what-should-i-do-if-my-pass-card-is-refused/ It's supported by the Home Office, Trading Standards, the Police, and the Council.

She has used it about 10 times now in 8 different places, and they have all been OK.

Thanks, it is a PASS, just hope it turns up soon as he has another party to go to next weekend, waste of the extra £10 for super fast service but hey ho will just have to rant and rave at verifier...even though I know I won't, I'll just seethe quietly! :o

How annoying Kate! As I said, my daughter's took 2 weeks to come! Is there nothing at all that your lad could use? :( I guess even a birth certificate is no good is it as it has no pic. :(
