You can brown the meat/ sausages off in a pan before adding to the slow cooker. Normally I do brown sausages, I find they keep the skin together better (I find unbrowned ones fall apart easier).
With meat, it depends if I'm pushed for time whether I brown it or not. Texture wise, I don't really see much of a difference, but I do find browned meat has a slightly better flavour?"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -
Yesterday I premade a few meals for the weekend, two of them in the slow cooker: Chinese curry for tonight and beef and spinach hotpot for tomorrow. My slow cooker is used pretty much daily in winter and probably twice a week in summer :j0

Today I did sausages and new potatoes in it

I put a small pyrex bowl in and filled it with potatoes and water. I browned the sausages and put them around the bowl. I am only feeding myself and a six year old so there was enough room. The potatoes boiled and it was all ready when we got home, all I had to do was cook a few frozen vegetables and dinner was served
I must be honest it was not as nice as if I had cooked it 'fresh' but I will certainly be doing it again when I know we will be out late.0 -
greek type casserole dishes are good - I use shin been to make a version of stifado, with tomatoes, picked onions, cinnamon and herbs - tasted a million times better than it sounds! this sort of thing, but I don't put any yoghurt/sour cream in! http://www.tastebook.com/recipes/3042618-Stifado0
